With the Recession just around the corner, we decided to purchase a Bosch 800 Series Top Control Tall Tub Pocket Handle Dishwasher in White with Stainless Steel Tub and Easy Glide Rack. Our old Whirlpool dishwasher was 20 years old. It was still working, but Diane noticed the glasses were not as clean as she would like.
I did my research with Consumer Reports. Consumer Reports ranked various Bosch dishwashers for their top five picks. We went to our local appliance store and checked out the Bosch dishwashers. Diane liked the 800 series best so that’s what we bought. Our new Bosch dishwasher arrives on Monday. What brand of dishwasher do you have? Are you thinking about a new dishwasher?

We have a Bosch in both our German and Hungarian houses, still older models but they’re working well and are easy to repair. I remember asking several repairmen in Hungary – the first ones said they do only washing machines and then a guy asked: What brand?
Bosch – ok, other brands no way … 🙂

Bosch and Siemens sell the same machines under different brand names, but I don’t know whether Siemens is available in the US.

I’m too lazy to go downstairs and see what brand I have, but it’s stainless steel and it works!
Bob, Diane wanted a white dishwasher and we found out LG and Samsung do not make white appliances.
We have a Kenmore. It’s ancient, but still gets dishes clean. We’ve set aside some money for a new dishwasher and other appliances but we’re having to have a major plumbing job done next week (pipe reroutes, etc.) because our old discharge pipes are blocked. I’d rather wait until all is well (and paid for!) before rushing to buy new appliances.
Deb, there’s a strong prospect that prices for appliances manufactured outside the U.S. are likely to go up shortly.
I have an old Sears Kenmore from back in the days when they made a quality product and provided expert service. I use it once or twice a year when I have more than 2 or 3 guests.
Dan, we have had good luck with our appliances. Diane is doing laundry with a Maytag washer that’s 39 years old.
We have the same dishwasher we have had for 48 years – me! Yes, it’s true. We have never owned a dishwasher.

Very pleased with our Bosh. Most importantly it cleans great. Very quiet; only hear the completed alarm when I am up late.
Janice is very loyal to ‘Cascade’ crystal detergent. I fell this product leaves a soap residue on inside of the machine. Our Bosh shipped with ‘Finish’ liquid pods – these may resolve the residue issue. I am a ‘follow directions’ guy and “… new tricks”. You have always been a ‘pod’ guy, so I am pretty sure you will use em.
Dishwasher safe plastic does not evaporate water completely, so carefully slide out the upper rack when emptying. I find it best to have a dish towel in hand.
Have your store do the install. They have a bracket that holds machine in place and does little or no damage to counter top and cabinets
j. padig, we always let the professionals do the installations on our appliances. I have no skill in that area and would only create more problems if I attempted to install anything (other than computer software). I’ll pass on your tips to my wife, too. Thanks for the advice!
When I worked for GE and people would call to complain about dishwasher residue, we’d tell them to run a cycle with Tang in the dispenser–crystals if it took powered soap. If it took liquid soap, use lemon juice–ReaLemon worked fine. Do not have dishes in the dishwasher when you do this.

We have a 4 year old Kenmore Elite that we’re quite pleased with. It’s quiet, gets the dishes clean and we like the layout of the shelves and racks.
Rick, CONSUMER REPORTS likes Kenmore, but likes BOSCH more.
The fact that I couldn’t possibly tell you what brand it is without going to look is a pretty good indication that I don’t care. It’s 5-6 years old, it works, and it will probably outlast me.
Michael, I suspect our replacement appliances will not last 20+ years like the ones we’ve had. New appliances are engineered for planned obsolescence.
A Miele. I’m not all that impressed, except in that it’s quiet. It barely ever gets anything dry.
Todd, I’m convinced the reason our Whirlpool dishwasher lasted decades was because after the cleaning cycle, we just stopped it and opened the door for the dishes to air-dry. And, by morning, the dishes were nice and dry.
