For the political junkie on your gift list, there’s this wonderful box set of House of Cards on sale at AMAZON.COM for $19.99 (list price is $65.99). That’s a 70% discount! You get 4 disks (674 minutes!) of political shenanigans at a bargain price! If you haven’t seen House of Cards, buy a set for yourself! Kevin Spacey is astonishing in this NetFlix original series. It doesn’t get much better than this!
The DVD set is almost $9 more expensive than the Blu-Ray. That seems unfair.
I want to see the British version. I am told it is better yet but my understanding of British politics might hamper it. I especially like the actor who he used and discarded in this.
Pati, if you’ve never seen the British version you MUST see it. It is just wonderful. Ian Richardson is superb as Francis Urquhart. The way he talks to the audience directly is done as well as it has ever been done and the show popularized the catch phrase, “You might very well think that; I couldn’t possibly comment.”
Patti, the Brit version of HOUSE OF CARDS is tempting me. AMAZON has it for $30!
Jeff, I’ve seen Blu-rays priced less than DVDs more and more.
Jeff, I’m a big fan of Ian Richardson. I think I’ll order that British box set!
Um, Blu-ray is just a format of DVD, yes? So a “regular” DVD and a Hi-Def Blu-ray DVD should cost about the same, with the Blu-ray being slightly more. But they’re BOTH DVDs. Also, why would there be a U.S. and British version of the same show? Not that I’d be watching anything focused for the “political junkie” which I very much am not.
Rick, I suppose it’s just marketing. Sure a Blu-ray and a DVD are both DVDs, but one is high-def and the other is low-def.
Well, standard definition. You could fetch out a b&w portable tv from the 1970s to see if you could achieve low def…Haven’t seen HOC yet…if BORGEN is 10 and THE WEST WING is 0, where does the US version land? (I’ll be looking for the original, too…)
Todd, I’d rate HOUSE OF CARDS (the U.S. edition) a 9. I ordered the Brit version of HOUSE OF CARDS (I couldn’t resist the $30 price tag!). It’s been years since I’ve seen it but it would probably rank an 8.
