I’m alive! My surgery went well. I have a nice new left knee. But I came down with a bad case of illuis (forgive my spelling) which is a condition that shuts down the gastric system. The cause is anesthesia and the pain medications. As soon as I recover, I’ll be back blogging in real time. Until then, I have posts ready for the next week or two. I go to Rehab tomorrow. More details as soon as I’m able. Avoid hospitals!
Ah, George. So sorry. Hope it’s a temporary thing. I think my Mom had this after bypass and it was temporary. We miss you even if you are here virtually.
Oh yes–the dreaded “we don’t hear any gurgling, so you’re going to have to stay where you are until we do.” Best of luck, George–sometimes that’s worse than the surgery.
Ick on the bad reaction, George, but glad you’re getting better. I’m afraid you reinforced Jackie’s conviction to avoid surgery – especially elective surgery – as long as possible.
Glad to hear a live report from the battle front. You’ll bounce back soon, I know!
Good luck, George!
Sorry to hear about the complications, George. I’m sure you’ll rebound in due time. No hurry at our end, we’ll wait with the greatest patience.
For the curious &/or morbid who like to look this medical stuff up and obsess over it, the word is ‘ileus’, which I found after some trial and error. In your case, George, it’s paralytic or postoperative ileus. Me, I’m not fazed by the cutting & stitching of surgery, but the dangers & side effects of anaesthesia really creep me out. Welcome back to the land of the living, George, and soon we hope to the land of the digesting as well.
I’m well familiar with hospitals, unfortunately. Glad to hear you’re doing better.
The question now is will we be seeing you on Dancing With the Stars or Celebrity Rehab? Either way, have a speedy recovery.
Good luck George. I’ve spent way too much time in hospitals, so I feel for you. The last time I had a hip replacement I could not wait to go home – and I surprised myself by being able to take care of myself alone – except making that step up and into the shower!
Better luck, George…I hope at least it’s one of those rare hospitals with consistently conscientious staff and, when you’re ready, decent enough food…
I hate hospitals, I mean really, really, HATE them. So I feel for you on several levels, the gastric problems, the pain, just being in a place where, though one is supposed to be resting and recuperating, they wake you up every hour or two to ask a question or give you something, plus the PA system blares constantly, night and day.
Add the extra joy you’re going through and it sounds nightmarish. Also, this surgery was elective? So no – or limited – insurance coverage? Yikes! Now that’ll cut into your book budget.
Get well soon, my friend, and back on your feet. I won’t be in St. Louis, but I’m hoping to hear reports of you in full prance there.
I hope you feel better soon, George! I will keep everyone here updated and I know that they are all hoping for a speedy recovery for you!
Feel better soon Dr. Kelley!!
