JERSEY BOYS

Diane and I saw the play version of Jersey Boys a couple years ago. The movie version is very similar. Basically, it’s the story for four guys who form a group and become successful. Very, very successful. Of course, there are problems. But the music and the money seems to solve everything. No surprises here. If you grew up on the Four Seasons’ music like I did, this will be a fun trip down Memory Lane. GRADE: B+

I’ll pass. Always disliked The Four Seasons. I was listening more to artists like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley at this time. The Four Seasons was music more for the guys with duck tails and pompadours.

I liked the Four Seasons’ music and we really liked the musical version, both on Broadway and in London. That’s why I’ll skip this until it comes on cable.

Unlike Steve, I found room for more than a few rock artists. I liked the Four Seasons a lot, as well as the Tokens and other similar sounding groups. Barbara says she wants to see this one.

I saw the play and enjoyed it, I like the music (as well as Motown), but it takes a lot to get me into a theater these days. We’ll see, as my mother used to say.

Rick-I think you are stretching the term Rock if you include The Four Seasons. Closer to pop music of the time-Frankie Avalon, James Darren and that ilk.

Steve, my memory says that although the term Motown was in place, everything on the top 40 stations was all lumped together as rock and roll at the time, they’d play Carl Perkins and the Supremes one after the other. I got the impression from our comment you were a Motown only guy.

The Four Seasons are rock in my universe, which includes the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame, where they’ve been inducted.
