I picked this Double Feature DVD up at Wal-Mart for $9.95 which I thought was a bargain (AMAZON wants $13.42). Public Enemies has Lex Luthor turning our heroes into social and legal outcasts. Apocalypse features a mysterious space ship from Krypton carrying a beautiful girl. I enjoyed these animated adventures, but I’d give the edge to Apocalypse over Public Enemies. Both are fun! GRADE: PUBLIC ENEMIES B+ and APOCALYPSE A-
I miss the less dark, angry versions of these heroes from DC. From the time the DC writers had Luthor run for President and win, the whole Superman storyline began spiraling down a noir doom spiral only occasionally lightened buy a side story with a simple plot. The same thing seems to have happened with Batman, going back to Barbara Gordon’s murder by the Joker.
As for these animated adventures, Public Enemy follows a storyline in the comics, not sure about the other one. These might be worth renting. I don’t buy many DVDs anymore, as I never seem to watch them.
Rick, I’m sure you would enjoy this DOUBLE FEATURE DVD. I’m trying to cut back on buying Blu-rays and DVDs but when bargains pop up I can’t resist!
