Grab a copy of 500 Essential Cult Books and look forward to hours browsing. You’ll see some great cover art and some books you’d love to own. The authors try to present a cross-section of books: paperbacks, hardcovers, fiction, non-fiction, and graphic novels. Yes, some will quibble that this or that title isn’t included. But, if you want to see the covers of 500 unique books, run out and buy this book. That may encourage McKinnon & Holland to start working on a sequel. GRADE: A
Yes, I probably need this.
Yes, Bill, 500 ESSENTIAL CULT BOOKS is a must-buy for most of us.
I wonder what makes MR. RIPLEY a cult book. I can see most of the others on the cover by why that one. No, I also don’t get ALL IS QUIET. Guess I’d better look for it at the library to find out.
The authors’ definition of “cult” is pretty elastic, Patti. You’ll enjoy looking at those 500 book covers.
I was going to say they must have a wide definition of “cult” to include some of these, but it does look interesting.
The 500 covers vary in quality, Jeff. But there’s plenty of eye-popping artwork to make it worthwhile.
“Cult” is the new “pulp.”
Well put, Todd. You have to have a trendy title to sell a book today. GREAT COVER ARTWORK wouldn’t cut it.
…is the new “genre.”
Just tell me before I spend time & $$ on it: Do they include THE COYOTE CONNECTION ?
I suspect they’re saving THE COYOTE CONNECTION for the sequel: 500 MORE ESSENTIAL CULT BOOKS, Dan.
You read more widely than I do, George. Some were interesting and surprising, others I’d never heard of.
I did end up getting Joe 500 Essential Cult Movies for his birthday. He’s always looking for something new to add to his Netflix queue.
I may read widely, Beth, but there’s a good proportion of book covers in 500 ESSENTIAL CULT BOOKS I’d never seen before. The authors’ cast a wide net.
