Every year, the North Tonawanda Public Library hosts a Book Sale. The tables are full of X-library books and donations. And, each year at the end of the book sale, there’s the “Bag Sale” day. For $5, you get to fill a grocery bag with as many books as you can jam in. These books filled my bag!
You bagged some goodies!
Yes, Bill, there were some nice hardcovers at this library Book Sale. And at $5 a bag, the price was right.
The Hitchcock anthology looks interesting.
You’re right, Drongo. I have many Hitchcock anthologies, but I’ve never seen this one before.
Always liked Constantine especially Slow Tomatoes. Good hunting.
I’m a big fan of K. C. Constantine, Patti. He’s a terrific writer that seems to have been utterly forgotten.
The Man Who Loved Slow Tomatoes is one of my favorite books. Everything in your haul seems to fall into the very good/exceptional catagory, George.
Thanks, Jerry! The Book Sale provided a whole table and a couple of bookshelves of mysteries. Plenty of good books!
The “Hitchcock” antho is one of the Dial hardcover versions of the ALFRED HITCHCOCK’S ANTHOLOGY issues that Davis Publications used to issue, in the manner of the ELLERY QUEEN’S ANTHOLOGY issues and eventually ISAAC ASIMOV’S ANTHOLOGY issues, the AH and IA volumes being all reprints from the monthly magazines, the EQs eventually becoming that. ANALOG briefly got similar treatment before Davis began mixing reprints from the two pairs of magazines together for such usually semi-annual or quarterly “anthology” issues.
The only pity is in that these were either de-accessioned or never added to the collection…
You and I think alike, Todd. All the books I jammed into by grocery bag should be on a library shelf instead of sitting on one of my book shelves down in the Bat Cave.
It’s been a fair number of years since I was able to get the local library sale(the aisles would be to narrow for my wheelchair. The last time I made a good haul, though, at two dollars a bag. The prize for me was five Travis McGees in hardcover.
Nice haul, Randy! My public library set up their Book Sale room to be handicapped accessible.
My library is handicap accessible, but it’s a small library. When the sale is set up every year, the back room spills over and the main hallway is lined with tables on each side with bare walking room between. That is, unless they do it different these days. It HAS been a few years.
You might want to mention this to your librarians, Randy. I’ve found them very open to suggestions to improve their Book Sale.
Nice haul, George. I haven’t read a Constantine in a long time but I liked all those I have read, and CRANKS AND SHADOWS is sitting on the shelf waiting to be read.
I haven’t seen any Constantine books in used bookstores or book sales for years, Jeff. Finding these Constantines was a nice score.
