After the producers of The Closer launched Major Crimes, I wasn’t sure the spin-off program on TNT would succeed. But the talented cast–Mary McDonnell (Sharon Raydor), G. W. Bailey (Louie Provenza), Tony Denison (Andy Flynn), Michael Paul Chan (Michael Tao), Raymond Cruz (Julio Sanchez), Kearran Giovanni (Amy Sykes), Phillip P. Keene (Buzz Watson). and Graham Patrick Martin (Rusty Beck–held on to The Closer audience with a blend of serious and humorous episodes. I’m still a bit skeptical of the Rusty sub-plot, but most viewers seem to like it. There’s been no word as to Major Crimes being renewed for 2014, but if it is I’ll be watching.
I’ve never watched an episode of THE CLOSER, so It was all new to me. I enjoyed it(except for that annoying young assistant D.A.). I guess they need that counterpoint to the more reasonable Raydor. I remain open to the Rusty subplot, but they seemed to abandon that, other than an oblique reference to juice up things with the young lady, late in the season. Maybe tonight’s episode will touch on it.
Randy, usually THE CLOSER and MAJOR CRIMES conclude their seasons with cliff-hangers. I’m guessing the Rusty sub-plot will be involved.
There have been so many good TV series on this summer, I lost track of this one after the first episode. I never thought a day would come when there was too much to watch. But with ORPHAN BLACK, THE BRIDGE, BROADCHURCH, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK, DEXTER, etc. I am in front of the TV too often.
You’re right, Patti. Loved ORPHAN BLACK (thanks for the heads-up!) and I like THE BRIDGE, LONGMIRE, COPPER, and UNDER THE DOME.
Randy beat me to it – that idiotic ADA is Just. Too. Stupid. I can’t believe a unit called “Major Crimes” would be saddled with her and that Chief Taylor can’t pull strings to get her reassigned.
I agree with you on the Rusty subplot – end it already.
Jeff, that ADA annoys me. Maybe Something Will Happen to her tonight.
LUTHER is also coming back to BBA America. We liked the first series better than the second (which we quit watching) but will give it a try. Incidentally, like ORPHAN BLACK, all previous episodes are available at BBA America On Demand so you can catch up. Idris Elba is intense and Ruth Wilson makes the show as Alice Morgan.
The actor who plays LUTHER stars in the upcoming movie of MANDELLA, Jeff. Looks good!
I was enjoying the first series of LUTHER, when something happened(I can’t even remember what now) and I stopped. Never watched the second series. We used to have BBC On Demand, but Timewarner in it’s infinite wisdom(snicker) replaced it with something called G4, which is a computer games/junk channel, something. I didn’t last long.
Randy, we have TIME WARNER and they won’t give us the NFL CHANNEL unless subscribers pay for it separately. TIME WARNER loves to nickel-and-dime you.
Cocast is no different or better than T-W when it comes to cable shenanigans. When you’re big enough, you can do whatever you want in cable, I guess. Years later, I still miss Cox cable that we had in SoCal. As for the program, it’s no surprise I haven’t seen it, since I watch precious little TV. I did see the Seahawks romp over the Brocos in a pre-season workout, though. I also see the Bills are looking better in pre-season.
Rick, the Bills are reeling from the knee injury to their promising rookie QB, E. J. Manuel. He’ll miss about a month. The Seahawks look strong.
I kept writing BBA America instead of BBC, obviously.
Jeff, I’m impressed with BBC America especially their ON DEMAND offerings. I just hope they don’t get purged like Time Warner did to Randy’s cable package.
Never heard of it.
If you like crime dramas, Bob, THE CLOSER and MAJOR CRIMES are very good.
