NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS VS. BUFFALO BILLS

The Buffalo Bills open the 2013 NFL season with a home game against their AFC East rivals, the New England Patriots. Head Coach Bill Belichick has dominated the Bills for the past decade. Today, Belichick has to be gleeful at the prospect of facing Bills rookie quarterback E. J. Manuel who has never played in a real NFL game. A whole new coaching staff has revamped the Bills’ offense and defense during the off-season. But the Bills also sustained some key injuries during the pre-season so they’re shaky on both sides of the ball. Things look dire. How will your favorite NFL team fare today?

Good question. THe Giants put out a lousy effort in last year’s opener against the Cowboys and I’m hoping they play better tonight down in Dallas.

After a strong pre-season and putting “Bountygate” behind them with the return of Sean Peyton, the Saints head into an opener with hated rival, the Atlanta Falcons. Despite a couple of troubling injuries to key players, the Who Dat Nation has great hopes for this season.

The Jets will continue their plunge to the bottom, the Panthers will likely lose to Seattle, the team a lot of folks think might win the Super Bowl, and the ‘Skins Monday night will win out.

I’d say the (b>Seattle Seahawks will beat Carolina at Carolina and the San Francisco Forty Niners have a tough opener against the Packers though it’s in San Francisco, which helps. I think the two best games today are the Saints-Falcons (unfortunately only on radio here) and the Niners-Packers. I won’t even bother with the 5pm our time Giants-Cowboys game, as I don’t give a hoot who wins or loses.

Game I’d like to be able to drop in on during the day: Arizona at St. Louis, to see how division rivals both look this week.

On RG3, they should have taken him out of the rest of the game right away instead of threatening his long term health, whether he plays, and plays well, today or not.

Update, at halftime, the Seahawks, who look awful are training 3 to 7. Gasp. I expected them to be leading by 14 at this point. What the?

Saints win! Although hardly a dominating performance, I’m glad to see that check in the WIN column.

/Now I can return to the Rangers game.

I wish I could claim any part in the Saints win–other than clanging my Saints cowbell (a Mardi Gras parade throw from years ago) every time the team scored!

    End of first games comments:

Seahawks – looked lousy but managed a win. Must be better next week or will get trampled.
Jets – better to be lucky than good, I guess.
Saints – I’m glad to see them beat the Falcons.
    Bears – also got lucky
Dolphins – looked better than I expected.

Now on to the Niners-Packers game……….

Well, I live in the Rangers viewing area (at least that’s what we get on Fox Sports Southwest here), so I watch a lot of Ranger games. They’re playing the Angels today and, because I lived in Southern California for 20 years, I find myself rooting for “the Halos” right now.

Deb, and because I lived in SoCal (Orange County) for 40 years, I am an Angel fan and since the Rangers beat them several times in post season play, I really don’t like them. I hope the Oakland As win that division, as the Angels don’t seem to have much chance. Good show on the Saints!

    Niners-Packers is a great game.

Looks like the Niners will win. I like them, but because of divisional positioning I’d rather see them lose. Seattle looked lame. They would have lost if it hadn’t been for that late fumble.

Whew. Bob is right, a 49er loss would have been good for the Seahawks in division, but I like both teams and oot for them both except head-to-head. Time to fire up the grill.
