I found this set at BJ’s Warehouse for $5.99. All 22 episodes in this series are here. This version of Flash Gordon is set in the 21st Century. Eric Johnson plays Flash (you might remember him from Smallville), Gina Holden plays Dale Arden (you might remember her from Fantastic Four), and Jody Racicot plays Dr. Hans Zarkov (you might remember him from The Newsroom). John Ralston plays Ming the Merciless (you might remember him from Life With Derek). Sure, it’s schlocky, it’s silly, but it’s fun. What’s better on a cold winter night than watch Flash Gordon defend the Universe! GRADE: C+
Never seen this though I would probably run away from the cover (looks like it belong to FLESH GORDON) – no idea if it’s been released in the UK but shall hunt around – thanks!
Sergio, this version of FLASH GORDON got better with each episode.
Was this series on the Skiffy/Syfylis Channel? I missed it altogether.
Todd, FLASH GORDON premiered on Sci Fi in the United States on August 10, 2007 and continued airing new episodes through February 8, 2008. It has also appeared on the United Kingdom Sci Fi Channel and SPACE in Canada. The series was developed by Peter Hume, who served as executive producer/show runner and wrote the first and last episodes.
I wonder what percentage of fans of this sort of movie are women. Why don’t women like adventure movies more? Why don’t men like romances? There is a difference, I guess.
Patti, I suppose those differences are hard-wired into men and women.
I’ll read the original comic strips, thanks.
Rick, the original comics are classics. This TV version is just fun.
George, I’m with Richard about the original comic strips. I loved the colourful and intricate drawings.
Prashant, the original Flash Gordon comics have been collected in some pricey volumes. But, they’re worth it.
The only Flash Gordons I really enjoyed were the old serials with Buster Crabbe.
Jeff, I’ll watch just about anything with Buster Crabbe in it.
What Jeff said.
I met Buster at my first comic con in 1970, and got his autograph.
