Wow! Hope you have, in order of importance, 1) power, 2) heat, 3) food, 4) enough books. I suppose you’ll be home grading all those papers the rest of the week. Do you have mail delivery, UPS, FedEx or anything?
Rick, so far the USPS and UPS are operating in my area. But south of Buffalo, it’s a different story. Did my package reach you yet?
Nope. I’ll email you when it does.
Rick, the tracking claims the package was delivered.
I heard that they’re trying to recruit volunteers to shovel out for the Buffalo Bills game this weekend.
Don’t do it, George! Step away from the shovel and just take in the game on TV. Local radio people hypothesized that, if the Bills were playing the Packers this weekend and needed their stadium shoveled out, a caravan of volunteers would head to NY from Green Bay to make sure that the show went on.
Stay warm.
Beth, I plan on taking your advice to stay warm and hunkered down. No show shoveling for me! The Buffalo Bills game on Sunday looks like it’s going to moved by the NFL.
They better hurry up, if they are going to move it. I remember the “good old days” when pro football went on run, shine, snow or sleet. These days they’re all a bunch of over-paid pansies. I say make ’em play the game in Buffalo.
Rick, there’s a real issue whether Ralph Wilson Stadium can be cleared of the 220 tons of snow that now fill it in time for Sunday’s 1 P.M. kickoff. Travel bans are still in effect with hundreds of abandoned cars and trucks blocking the snow-filled roads. It’s still a disaster.
Yes, well, I can see how that might pose a problem. :-0
I think they’ll move the time – maybe to Monday night.
Those pictures are amazing, especially when you consider it’s only November! Good thing you live on the right side of Buffalo, George, because those people in South Buffalo, West Seneca, Cheektowaga, Orchard Park, etc. have a lot of cleaning up to do.
Jeff, they’re still trying to open up the New York State Thurway. It’s closed from Rochester to the Pennsylvania State Line. Next week, when the temps hit 50 degrees, the melting snow will create flooding.
Cheers, George! My relatives in California and Canada often tell me that the deluge of winter snow in North America is as bad as the deluge of flood waters during monsoon in India, and that clearing the roads and driveways of mountains of snow is a backbreaking task and at times impossible to shovel. Maybe, I’ll stick to our seven months of 35 C (95 F) hot and humid weather, and sweat it out.
Prashant, many people romanticize snow. But if you look at these photographs, you’ll see the enormity of the Snow Event. So far, eight people have died as a result of the snow storm.
George, I read about the snow storm and the casualties, and I hope you and your family are safe.
Prashant, we’re all safe and sound. But, we’re north of Buffalo. All the snow is falling south of the city. The forecasters are saying the snow storms will cease tomorrow. But the dig-out will take a long time.
That is quite the winter storm. I’m wanting some snow, but not nearly that much.
Carl, a little snow goes a long way with me. When I was a kid, I used to play in the snow for hours. My friends and I would have snowball fights, build snow forts, and climb giant snow mounds. Now, I snow blow the white stuff and try to avoid driving in it.
The snow we get here last only a couple of days and just runs off into the rivers, for the most part, which get higher levels but nothing like overflowing. We do have an occasional ice storm which keeps us at home, but again, only for a day or two. I’m very glad we’re not in Buffalo.
Rick, I’m glad I’m north of Buffalo. The traditional Lake Effect snow bands set up south of the city. The ski resorts love it!
I just read on the Sports Illustrated e-letter that the NFL has announced the game will definitely not be played there, but may be played in Detroit or elsewhere. What a mess.
Rick, I’d vote for Detroit if I had a vote on where to move the Jets vs. Bills game.
They’re leaking Detroit or Washington as the likely site for the game. At least they finally faced up to the inevitable. Detroit would probably be the best choice.
