The NFL wisely moved the NY Jets vs. Buffalo Bills game from Ralph Wilson Stadium at Sunday at 1 P.M. to Detroit on Monday night. Seven feet of snow proved too much even for the NFL. Hopefully the stadium will be cleared of the 220 tons of snow for the game against the Cleveland Browns next Sunday. How will your favorite NFL team do today?
Actually, for football players that’s pretty smart!
Dan, many of the Bills players had to be picked up by snowmobile in order to get them to the Airport for the flight to Detroit. Many roads are still not open.
The Giants play in the Meadowlands against the Cowboys tonight. Forget about it.
After 10 days of below normal temperatures we will be in the mid-50s today and should be around 50 at game time, so weather won’t be a factor here. (They are talking 71 here tomorrow!) I’m not expecting a win, let’s just say that.
Jeff, between the 40 degree temperatures (it’s 45 degrees right now) and the rain, we have zero snow. But the folks south of Buffalo are facing flooding today as the six feet of snow melts.
I can guarantee the Saints will not lose today…tomorrow night is another story, however, when the 4-6 Saints take on the 6-4 Ravens in the Superdome on Monday Night Football. The Saints used to be almost invincible at home, but back-to-back home losses have put pay to that. They limp toward the end of another disappointing season amid rumors that both Payton and Ryan will be elsewhere next season.
As for me, I plan to start my Thanksgiving cooking early–pecan, pumpkin, and fruit pies to be baked today!
Deb, Katie flies in from Boston today, Patrick flies in from Albuquerque tomorrow. Diane is busy planning family meals for the next week. Katie will be baking apple pies. We have a local Pie Lady who will bake the pumpkin and pecan pies for us (they’re Delicious!). I love Thanksgiving (my favorite holiday of them all)! The greedy corporate clowns that are opening their stores on Thanksgiving (and who came up with my most unfavorite day of the year, Black Friday) should be despised.
An up-and-down Seahawks team plays the best team in the NFC today, and I expect them to get beat. Though Seattle has some talent, they have a weak O-line and have let go (for various reasons) of great receivers and have only serviceable ones now. Russell can’t win if he has to scramble all the time, and Lynch can’t run 25 times against Arizona and make enough difference. The Seahawks are showing that last year they were as lucky as good, and the luck seems to have ebbed away. It’s raining here and in Seattle, but I doubt that will make much difference.
Rick, Arizona is the Surprise Team of the year!
Oh, and George, if you despise Black Friday, wait until Black Wednesday gains traction.
Rick, it will be a dark day when Black Wednesday becomes popular.
I agree – Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday (I love the food and it’s my birthday week) and the greed merchants opening their stores on Thursday are despicable.
I hate, hate, hate all the phony Black Friday hype.
Jeff, Black Friday is such a scam! I can’t believe people fall for it. You can buy just about anything cheaper online (with free delivery!). No standing in lines, no getting up at 3 A.M.
It’s not just Black Friday now. More and more stores are opening on Thanksgiving Day! Could we all please give it a rest and just enjoy one day free from the hounds of commerce? I know, I know–I’m preaching to the choir here.
Deb, the Choir likes what you’re saying! Thanksgiving should be shared with family, not standing in line at a store in the Mall.
You’re right. Besides several more purchases from Amazon (including shoes), Jackie shopped at Macy’s and Kohl’s this week, both without leaving the computer. And she got free shipping from both.
Black Friday is a joke and one perpetrated and abetted by the media. I’m trying to work out an over/under on how many stories we get of rioting, people getting trampled, etc.
Jeff, that rioting and trampling happens every Black Friday. The Media revel in it!
Deb wants one day free from the hounds of commerce. Not in the 21st century, I’m afraid. Too damn bad.
Seattle is ahead 9-0. Yellow flags fly every other play. Bah.
Rick, watch out for Arizona in the Fourth Quarter!
Seahawks won it. The defense was very good this week.
Rick, it always makes for a Better Week when your team wins!
How about those Seahawks? They beat the best team in football while losing to lesser ones.
Bob, if I had to pick a “best team” it would be the Patriots, at least right now.
