Soulless is the first volume of Parasol Protectorate series. In this Steampunkish Victorian novel, Alexia Tarabotti, a soulless spinster, takes on vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural creatures. Yes, it’s silly. But, I found Alexia’s adventures fun. There’s a romantic subplot that might appeal to some. If you’re in the mood for a quirky action series, this is it. GRADE: B
THE PARASOL PROTECTORATE SERIES:
Soulless
Changeless
Blameless
Heartless
Timeless
Si, literally soulless? Gotcha … I think 🙂
Sergio, being soulless gives Alexia the power to negate the power of vampires and werewolves. This results in some nifty action!
As Dave Barry would say, send her to Washington! She’d fit right in.
Jeff, Alexia wants a Government job, but as a field agent.
George, I marvel at the variety of books and anthologies you read. I learn about a new author or book almost every day.
Prashant, there’s a lot of good books out there. I just try to share them with the visitors to this blog. I report, you decide.
Not for me, but if there are five of them, they must be selling. If she has no soul, she can’t be much of a romantic…
Rick, I’ll probably read the whole series since it is only five books. Alexia is certainly romantic (she’s attracted to a werewolf) but her soulless powers can prevent supernatural creatures from using their powers.
I have enjoyed the series. Gail Carriger is a hoot in person, too.
Scott, I can believe Gail Carriger is a character. The whole tone of her book had a different vibe.
