Because of a wardrobe malfunction, the Barden Bellas–national champion Collegiate A Cappella group–is suspended.
the only way they can defend their title is to enter the World Championship in Copenhagen…and win it. The problem: no American A Cappella group has ever won the world title (as one commentator says, “The world hates us.”). Many of the women from Perfect Pitch return to sing their hearts out. Of course, problems abound: romantic problems, relationship problems, work problems, future problems, etc. The audience for the Perfect Pitch movies is twenty-something women. Perfect Pitch 2 is already the third highest grossing comedy ($150 million and still growing) ever (the first is The Hangover at $467 million and the second is Austin Powers in Goldmember at $297 million). I’m sure the success of Pitch Perfect 2 will produce a Pitch Perfect 3 in a couple years. GRADE: B
Nah.
Bob, a movie of teen angst might not be your cup of tea.
Certainly not for me, but one of my daughters (almost 17) went to see it last week and her response was pretty much “Meh.”
Deb, PERFECT PITCH was better than PERFECT PITCH 2. But the sequel is making more money.
That list of top comedies just shows how out of touch I am with current Hollywood thinking. Actually, we watched the first PITCH PERFECT on cable and, now expecting much, kind of enjoyed it. I like Anna Kendrick. We’ll undoubtedly watch this on cable as well.
Now if Melissa McCarthy was the star we might pay to see it.
Jeff, I like Anna Kendrick, too. PITCH PERFECT 2 is too predictable for me. I like to be surprised.
You’re always surprised by a movie. You never know what the directors will do for the next movie, but when it comes out, you have no idea what it will look like so it either will surprise you with how boring or normal it is or it will surprise you with another point of view. I know that this movie wasn’t as good as the first one, but unless you know what the director is thinking, work on the movie, or are the director, then you have no idea what the movie is gonna be like. It PISSED me off when you said that you liked to be surprised. Reason 1 being that the movie was still amazing. Flashlight is now my favorite song because of this movie. Reason 2, you are an idiot if you think this movie wasn’t funny as hell. And reason 3, you must be at least 35 to not like this movie. i am 15 but i still have my right to speak my truth. If you don’t like how “Unsurprising” or “Predictable” movies are nowadays then I have news for you. Movies that have sequels are all “Unsurprising” and “Predictable”. you know how? Because Fast and the Furious, though it’s a great series, you have to admit it’s kinda predictable with how it’s ALWAYS action-y. They ALWAYS have cars. Some get blown up, some get thrown into a form of water, some just get shot at, and some get jumped off a building.(“Cars can’t fly Dom, Cars can’t fly!!”) But they always get destroyed. Look there is nothing wrong with all this Bad ass-ery, I just wanted to make a point.
Sunni, you’ve made some valid points.
Loved 1 but not much tempted by 2.
Patti, PITCH PERFECT 2 gives audiences More of the Same. I would have preferred some surprises.
The internet ate my initial, long, extraordinarily cerebral comment, which embraced insights into the nature of humanity, comedy and the entertainment of the masses. So this time I’ll just say I like a cappella singing, but this doesn’t sound appealing at all.
Rick, you would have to like contemporary pop music a lot to enjoy this movie. Pop music makes up about 90% of the a cappella songs they sing.
Mary and I watched the first one streaming not too long ago and enjoyed it enough that we ended up seeing this one opening weekend. It was fun. I think I like the first one a little better, but for the kind of movie it is it was highly entertaining.
Carl, I had the same reaction to the PITCH PERFECT movies as you did. Entertaining and fun.
