Blythe Danner plays a widow named Carol whose life changes when two men enter her life. Lloyd, the Pool Guy, is a typical Millennial living with his mother and working a dead-end job. Sam Elliott plays Bill, a member of a nearby retirement community who is smitten by Blythe (what guy wouldn’t be?). I also enjoyed Blythe’s friends: June Squibb, Rhea Perlman, and Mary Kay Place. This is a pleasant movie with a good cast. No surprises. GRADE: B
You liked it more than I did. Seemed like a Lifetime Network movie to me, except with a better cast.
Steve, “a Lifetime Network movie” with a better cast pretty much sums up I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS. My expectations were low going in.
I know this is on Jackie’s list. She loves Sam Elliott (except when he shaved his mustache in JUSTIFIED).
Jeff, tell Jackie that Sam Elliott has his mustache in I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS. Big and bushy.
She is relieved to hear it. I’m surprised that it isn’t playing in Brooklyn at all and only seems to be in one theater in Manhattan.
Jeff, I’LL SEE YOU IN MY DREAMS is worth seeking out. Just don’t expect too much.
What Steve said but at least it treated some of the issues of age with respect. I love Sam too but he is always Sam. So right, no surprises.
Patti, what you see is what you get with Sam Elliott.
I will probably wait to see this on Netflix–even though Sam Elliott has long been one of my “secret husbands.”
Deb, Sam Elliott drew a lot of interest from the women in this movie. But, he really like Blythe.
I wanted to take my girlfriend to see this, but she opted for JURASSIC WORLD.
Dan, I’m impressed with your girlfriend’s choice! She’s a keeper!
This is a low-key movie but much better than most indie character studies. The dialogue is fine, the character relationships interesting, the cast uniformly terrific, in particular Martin Starr of FREAKS AND GEEKS fame. His karoke number is worth the price of admission. But you probably have to be over fifty to really dig this.
Max, and let’s not forget the geezer sex scene.
Not for me.
