RHINO Records may be my favorite music company. They consistently put out great collections and do it with panache. This boxed set of GENESIS Live recordings is a case in point. Many of these songs have been available in bootleg editions for years. But RHINO remastered the sound so it’s glorious! If you’re a GENESIS fan, you’ll want this pronto. If you’re a casual fan, the price ($103) might seem daunting, but the value of the package is worth it: 8 CDs, 3 DVDs. That’s plenty of value for your hard-earned dollars. I’m not a big fan of live albums, but this is an exceptional experience. Take a listen and judge for yourself. GRADE: A
I remember my son playing Genesis in the eighties. That and Led Zepplin.
GENESIS has been around for over 30 years, Patti. I consider their early years (and albums) their best work.
I don’t have a single Genesis song or album, and couldn’t name or think of (tune, melody, whatever) any. I went to iTunes and listened to a couple and it sounded kind of familiar. Obviously, I’m not enough of a fan to buy this.
Patti – I do have a couple of Led Zep CDs though.
GENESIS is one of the “super-groups” from the 70s and 80s, Rick. This an awesome package for a true fan.
Have fun in Indy, everyone! I wish I were there instead of in bed with the flu.
Sorry to hear about the flu, Rick. Swine flu or just the regular kind? I’m due to get my flu shots when I return from BOUCHERCON.
Just a light version of the regular kind. I would have said “bad cold” except for the aching all over part. I got my flu shot a couple weeks ago. I’ll get the H1N1 shot sometime in November when my doc has the stuff.
Maybe Genesis was an 80s super group, I don’t recall them in in the 70s, when the super groups were Cream, CSN, Buffalo Springfield, etc. Then again my memory sometimes fails.
Off to find another box of tissues…
Get better soon, Rick!
