SEMI-BYE WEEK

With the Bills unlikely win in the Meadowlands over the Jets on Thursday Night Football (weren’t those uniforms hideous!), the Bills are off until their Monday Night Football game against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots next week. With two wins over the Miami Dolphins and the New York Jets in four days, the Bills are in the thick of the battle for a Playoff berth. How is your favorite NFL team going to do today?

    Lose, lose, lose.

I don’t see much (OK, any) chance the Giants will beat the Patriots in the Meadowlands this afternoon. Then again, I’m sure a lot of people thought the same when the two teams played the last two times in the Super Bowl, so stranger things have happened. But I doubt they will happen today.

Next week is finally the bye week for the Giants.

George, I told you that was a private photo–not for public display!

But back in the real world, after last week’s last minute loss (whatever else I’ve said about the Saints this season, their games sure haven’t been boring), the 4-5 Saints travel to D.C. to face the 5-3 Redskins. Their failure last week to climb above .500 means whatever faint hopes the boys in black and gold had for the post-season are pretty much buried. I probably won’t even be able to watch the game because of various activities scheduled this afternoon, but undoubtedly wherever I go in the Who-Dat Nation today, someone will have the score and keep me up to date.

Oops–Redskins are 3-5. Not that it seems to make much difference to the Saints. On the one hand, the handed the Falcons their first defeat of the season, on the other, they couldn’t put away the 1-6 Titans. There’s no rhyme or reason with them this season!

Deb, the Who-Dat Nation might be celebrating later today. The Saints are erratic but they can win if Drew Brees throws seven TDs! That photo just slipped out…oops!

As a lifelong Cowboy fan, I’ll be rooting for the Patriots and praying for a miracle that the Cowboys can win. Not expecting it though.

As I said, they didn’t win. Gave the game away. Again. Romo will be back next week so we will see if the collective confidence of the team can increase enough to win.

Bill, the Bengals keeping winning. For the first time in NFL history three teams have 8-0 records: the Patriots, the Panthers, and the Bengals.

Don’t worry, Maggie. The Packers play at home against the hapless Lions.

I’m rooting for the Dolphins, the Saints, and the Buccaneers to win today and help out the Giants.

Bob hasn’t commented on this post yet (maybe he got washed away in the rain storm), so I’ll say it: the Seahawks must win over the Cardinals to have any NFC West hopes, as the Cards are ahead in the standings. The Seahawks have been showing a disappointing lack of offense in recent games, and I think it will be a struggle for them today.

I slept late. I did see the last six minutes of the Lions-Packers game and that was exciting as hell. I don’t know if I’ll even watch the Seahawks, who seem to do better without me. A few minutes ago the Chiefs were beating hated Denver, but it’s early in that game so you never know how it will end up. I hope KC wins.

Can’t believe Green Bay lost to Detroit! I see Washington won big – sorry, Deb – but Dallas and Philadelphia did their part, and so far the Giants are leading New England (waiting for the usual fourth quarter collapse).

We were in the city most of the day.

Sad to say, I predicted this all the way. First and goal from the 6 the Giants should have RUN THE BALL. If New England lets you score, as they might have, OK. If not, you make them take their last time out and then run down as much of the clock as possible before kicking the field goal. Instead they threw it three times, kicked the field goal, and gave Brady 1:47 to work with, needing only a field goal. Yes, it was close, but the outcome was almost a foregone conclusion.

Instead of 5-5 the Giants should be 7-3.

Jeff, I totally agree with you. The Giants should have run the ball. New England might have “let” them score just to get the ball back with time on the clock. And I can’t believe they made a 54-yard Field Goal!

Bob, the Cardinals showed they’re the Best of the West. The Seahawks seldom lose a home game but they didn’t seem to be in-sync in this game.

Local news in New Orleans is reporting that the Saints have fired Rob Ryan. Too little, too late, IMHO. Sean Payton better watch his back too. Sure, he coached the Saints to a Super Bowl win, but that was six seasons ago.

Once again the Seahawks gave up a lead in the 4th quarter. The only team in the NFC West with a winning record in AZ. Unreal, considering two seasons ago it was the toughest division in the NFL.
