Rex Ryan must find it galling that his former team, the New York Jets, are about to enter the Playoffs while his current team is about to miss the Playoffs for the 16th straight year. Winter has finally arrived in Western New York. Snow is the forecast at game-time with a nasty windchill in the 20s. For the Jets, this is a Playoff game: if they win, they’re in. The Jets control their own Destiny. The Bills have nothing to play for. Too many injures and a lack of motivation will probably produce a blow-out. How will your favorite NFL team do this final week of the regular season?
The Saints limp to the end of a lackluster (putting it mildly) season by taking on the Falcons in Atlanta. I’ve written before about how all the dysfunction in the team’s owner’s family is being reflected on the field–and, apparently, that’s not just my humble opinion. In a recent front-page editorial, the Times-Picayune urged Tom Benson to sell both the Saints and the Pelicans. I don’t think the Benson family will go for that–but, hey, we got rid of OUR Ryan brother, George!
Deb, there are rumors that Rob Ryan may be headed to Buffalo to coach with his brother, Rex. Another Nightmare Scenario!
I doubt that anybody cares what the Cowboys do today. They’re going to finish dead last in a bad division. Even if they lose today, the Texans should win their bad division unless there’s some bizarre quirk of fate.
Bill, the Texans have been one of the surprise teams of the 2015 season. I wouldn’t want to play them in the Playoffs!
Who cares? The Giants have repeatedly blown games in the last five minutes – sometimes in the last few seconds – that they should have won. They were clearly the best team in a bad division and yet have nothing to show for it as the lame Redskins go to the playoffs and they don’t. I’m guessing that now that it means nothing they will blow out the Eagles in the Meadowlands, but who knows?
I know Rex Ryan desperately wants to beat the Jets and (probably) knock them out of the playoffs, but like you I don’t see that happening. We’re getting 5 games today: Jets v. Buffalo and Giants v. Eagles at 1. Seahawks-Cardinals and Chargers-Broncos at 4, and Packers-Vikings tonight.
Deb: sounds like your owners are kin to the spanos family. The only stellar player they’ve signed in several years was danny whitehead. They don’t want to put any of their own money into a new stadium in San Diego, but have invested (with the hated raiders) in a joint site in Carson CA. (what is commonly referred to as a toxic dump). They disrespect Eric Weddle, one of the best players we have. Last week, they fined him for watching his daughter perform at half time. IIRC, he was already out of the game with an injury. And they immediately put him on the injured reserve, so he couldn’t go with the team to denver. There was another player more seriously injured that they DIDN”T put on IR. A couple of days ago our paper had an article about Weddle practicing. He’ll be snapped up immediately by a smarter team.
Jeff, the chargers are known for losing at the end. I’m hoping the Pack prevails.
I lived in Torrance/South Bay for many years, so I’m very familiar with the Carson area. But look on the bright side: L.A. has been trying unsuccessfully to get an NFL team back in the area for 20-plus years and no result yet! Perhaps this whole Chargers thing will blow over like all the other “sure prospects”!
Deb, good points. But it seems like the NFL is desperate to place a team in LA. And a number of teams want to move.
Maggie, I’m with you on the Packers. But the Vikings are another surprise team this season. Anything could happen tonight.

George, we already have the snow, it started during the night, and is still snowing. we woke to white and 24 degrees. I think it’s clear in Seattle, but the Seahawks are in Phoenix and will probably get beat by the Cardinals, who look to be the best in the NFC right now. The teams that are out of the playoff still have pride to play for, as well as their stats and for some it’s a job interview for next season.
As for losing games “they should have won”, how about those Oregon Ducks last night?
Rick, Chip Kelly is looking for a job. He might be headed to the West Coast again.
Not back to Oregon, I think. At least not at this point. Maybe to Buffalo? San Francisco? L.A. Chargers? I think he’ll just sit back and see what offers he gets, as he did before signing with the Eagles.

Jeff, I’m as surprised by the Bills win over the Jets as you are. Couple that with the Miami win over the Patriots and I’m completely befuddled!
I think maybe the Seahawks will win today. GO SEAHAWKS! Right now it’s 36-6. But there’s still over a quarter to go. I’m not a big Packers fan, not that I dislike them, just kinda “meh”, but I’ll be pulling for them tonight.
Rick, it’s tough to win in Lambeau Field in January. The Cards obviously were “resting” their starters.
It’s all over but the groaning. The Seahawks spanked the hated Cardinals, the Jets blew it, and so did the Giants.
It started snowing here before noon but there wasn’t enough for Sofia to go sledding. In fact, she didn’t want to use our “dirty old sled” and her mother couldn’t find a snow coaster anywhere. So tough turkey, kid.
