For that Doctor Who fan on your gift list, here’s a perfect present! All 11 Doctor Who Christmas Specials are here on three Blu-ray discs (DVD format is also available). I’ve been a fan of Doctor Who since PBS started broadcasting episodes back in the 1970s. When the BBC “rebooted” the Doctor Who series for the 21st Century, I’ve been a huge fan. You need no prior Doctor Who exposure to enjoy these wonderful Christmas Specials. Plus you get a replica of the Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver! It doesn’t get much better than this! GRADE: A
Love the show – and how cool, you get your own sonic!
Sergio, I love that Sonic Screwdriver! Cool, indeed!
Some day I am going to devote myself to Dr. Who.
Patti, you’re missing out on a lot of fun! I’m sure your grandson will become a fan.
George, like Patti says, I plan to watch DOCTOR WHO some day.
Prashant, you’ll find the series very entertaining and involving.
Ooo…I NEED that sonic screwdriver! It is a working model, isn’t it?
Jerry, of course that’s a real Sonic Screwdriver!
So now they call that light saber a screwdriver. As in, “Relax, TSA guy, it’s only a screwdriver”. Right. I watched some Dr. Who back when Tom Baker played the part, and it was cheesy but fun, in small quantities. Not enough fun, however, for me to continue watching through seemingly countless other actors playing the part. Enjoy your sonic thingie, just don’t take it out in public or some idiot will call the cops on you for brandishing a weapon.
Rick, you’d be surprised at the sophistication of some of the later DOCTOR WHO episodes. Yes, the early episodes were cheesy and fun, but these current episodes have real production values!
I watch it occasionally. I prefer Matt Smith or David Tennant.
I do like the screwdriver, however.
By the way, I still have to type in my information every time.
Jeff, the Tech Support at WORDPRESS is seemingly non-existent. Patrick and I have queried them on the missing data problem. So far, no response. I apologize for the hassle. If I could fix it, I would.
As do I, and it’s pain in the neck.
Rick, WORDPRESS seems to be ignoring my cries for help. I don’t understand why some people lose data and others don’t. I don’t understand why my approval doesn’t trump erasing ID information. And, I don’t understand why WORDPRESS won’t respond to a Tech Support issue.
I am a recent Dr. Who watcher. I started with David Tennant, who remains my favorite (and is great on talk shows). I don’t watch it often, and only was able to watch it when I got BBC America, and may have started with reruns. The shows play on Sat, and maybe once a month or so I’ll tape a couple to watch. I did watch a show that kind of went thru the history and showed at least a small bit of each dr.
Before I started watching, I remember seeing stuff at comic con with big lines. I got some bit of swag, but gave it away to the lady who managed the booth I was working at. Her nephew was a big fan, and she couldn’t get away to get it. I don’t even remember what the swag was.
On Graham Norton, they had Peter Capaldi on, and he was filming something in I think Hungary. He met a young man who was a big Dr. fan, and while he couldn’t tell he had been selected as the new Dr., he strongly encouraged the kid to get a picture with him.
Maggie, BBC America offers DOCTOR WHO marathons on a regular basis. I like David Tennant, too. And I’m slowly warming to Peter Capaldi.
Interesting how tastes in SF differ …
I never “got it” for Dr Who – though I really like that black English humour as in Monty Python or the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy …
The same is true of my wife who watched some shows many years ago on Hungarian tv (we didn’t know each other then, only met when we were both over 60), though she also likes the classics that were translated into Hungarian.
But we are really “book people” anyway!
PS:
My wordpress problem also hasn’t gone away, but it’s really insignificant for me:
Typing the first letter makes the name/email appear.
Wolf, the 21st Century DOCTOR WHO episodes are much different from the early template. The actors, plots, scripts, and production values are all vastly better!
Never watched it!
