POGUE’S BASICS: LIFE By David Pogue

David Pogue is the “tech” reporter on CBS SUNDAY MORNING. He shows up to recommend the best cell phones and printers, etc. But, in this slim little book, Pogue distills his knowledge of common concerns of Life and offers some tips to make things easier. The subtitle of Pogue’s Basics: Life is “Essential Tips and Shortcuts (That No One Bothers to Tell You) for Simplifying Your Day.” I really liked Pogue’s approach to “How to Clean a Blender” (Fill the blender halfway with water…add a drop of dish detergent…and run it. Then, rinse with hot water. Done!). This book is full of helpful advice. Check it out! GRADE: B+

Rick, Pogue offers some clever cleaning tips. I wish Pogue had included a chapter on doing taxes. I’ve installed TURBOTAX and I’m ready to start entering data…lots of data. There must be a better way!

Maggie, a CPA would be doing exactly what I’m doing: using TURBOTAX. And charging me a big fee. I’d rather just do it myself but our tax system is so goofy it takes longer than it should. Just typing in our Charitable Deductions takes an hour.

I have to confess that sometimes, in the doctor’s waiting room or while waiting for my wife at the hairdresser’s I look into “women’s magazines” to find advice like that …

But to collect that in a book? Well, if it sells …

    PS:
Sometimes I visit special internet sites for unforeseen problems, like repairing something …
Isn’t that today’s way of doing it?

Wolf, I use GOOGLE every day to find answers. But Pogue’s book had some clever tips. To sharpen a pair of scissors, just cut a piece of sandpaper a couple of times!
