Jeff, Diane says “Thank you.” I’m taking Diane to see the musical version of DIRTY DANCING and then we have reservations at one of Dinae’s favorite restaurants. Patrick and Katie sent Diane a flower arrangement yesterday.
Years ago–many years ago now–about this time my sister was newly-divorced and living in a tiny apartment with her 2-yrar-old daughter, and it occurred to me that no one was going to do anything for her for Mother’s Day so I sent her a funny card.
Because of some longstanding scheduled events yesterday and because I hate the crazy lines and crowds on Mother’s Day, we went out to dinner on Friday to my favorite Chinese restaurant for an early Mother’s Day dinner. I cooked yesterday so I won’t have to cook today, but laundry doesn’t seem to want to wash itself–ha ha!
Meanwhile, my youngest children (twins) will be graduating from high school tomorrow evening. Both are graduating in the top ten of their class (4th & 6th respectively) and one of them is Student of the Year. Yes, I’m a braggy mom–but what else should I be on Mother’s Day?
Deb, Happy Mother’s Day! And your twins–as spectacular as they are and deserving those Graduation honors–need to thank you (and your husband) for the loving home and uplifting upbringing that made it all possible!
Years ago, we created a family tradition of going out for Mother’s (and Father’s) Day dinners on the Saturday night before the actual day. This year, our Saturday was already committed, so we went Friday. It’s always so much easier to do things earlier. And I made a pulled pork al pastor yesterday–so we’ll have carnitas for dinner tonight while we watch a baseball game or movie and stay away from the crowds.
Deb, you and your family is very smart. I went to our local grocery this morning and could hardly make it into the lobby. They were selling Mother’s Day balloons and flower arrangements to a mob of buyers. Crowds down every aisle once I entered the store! Fortunately, we have reservations for dinner tonight but that will be packed, too!

We always make sure to avoid restaurants that have “special” menus on holidays (except for the three years we went out on Thanksgiving ). Today we just went to Panera Bread for lunch. Even there it was a lot busier than on a normal Sunday.
Deb, if it isn’t too nosy, which colleges did your daughters decide on?
They’re both going to LSU. I’m hoping even our extremely red legislature will be able to keep TOPS (the college financial assistance program). They both have the top LSU Honors scholarships and on-campus jobs. They’re not rooming together. One is living in the Honors College and plans to major in Mathematics; the other is living in the Business dorm and majoring in Accounting (she wants to work for the FBI or IRS as a forensic accountant). And I plan to be looking for a second job! (“Do you want fries with that?”)
Happy Mother’s Day to Diane and all the rest of the mothers out there.

Classy… VERY classy!

And I’ve been doing it every year since.
Dan, you are all heart!
Happy Mother’s Day to all who fit the category.

Happy Mother’s Day, Deb, and congratulations on your kids’ great results.
Happy Mothers Day to all moms. Deb, you have a great idea about avoiding crowds.

That sounds good, Deb. I wish you all the best. And Baton Rouge isn’t too far from you.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the ladies out there!
Though of course this is nowadays mainly a commercial event, even here in Hungary. Btw we had two Mother’s Day’s:
In Hungary it’s the first Sunday in May and in Germany it’s the second Sunday – wonder why …
So my wife got presents twice!
And between those days last Thursday there was the German Father’s Day – usually a day to get out (if the weather is OK) and have lots of drinks …
Wolf, mothers are worth a couple of Special Days! My wife, Diane, enjoyed DIRTY DANCING and the wonderful dinner at one of her favorite restaurants.
