DOCTOR THORNE on AMAZON Prime Video

Tom Hollander plays the kindly Doctor Thorne. Doctor Thorne lives with his niece, Mary (Stefanie Martini), who has a complicated past. Their neighbors, the Greshams–Frank (Richard McCabe) and Lady Arabella (Rebecca Front)–are in financial difficulties and need to marry their son, Frank (Harry Richardson), to a wealthy woman. Dcotor Thorne is one of my favorite Anthony Trollope novels and this wonderful mini-series scripted by Julian Fellowes (of Downton Abbey fame) delights with its cast and setting. A visual feast! If you’re a fan of 19th Century storytelling, you’ll find Doctor Thorne terrific entertainment. And, if you’re an AMAZON Prime person, it’s FREE! GRADE: A

Trying to get an extender in so we can watch Amazon Prime. The TV keeps telling us something about our bands not being wide enough. Oh, for technological skill.

Patti, Patrick set up our Netflix and HULU and AMAZON Prime Internet streaming services. They work great! I wish I could send Patrick to you for a service upgrade!

I agree, Patrick is so talented

Not being an amazon customer, this will have to be netflix for me.

I just got Contour from Cox yesterday. Wish I could have kept the old box. This has good features, but is much harder to use. With the old one, I could watch a program while looking thru the guide and setting new shows to tape.

Maggie, we upgraded to the Time Warner DVR at allows us to record 10 programs at a time. And it tripled our storage space to 300 hours!

As you know, I’m a Trollope fan girl, but I don’t have Amazon Prime. However, when I find this elsewhere, I’ll be sure to watch it.

Deb, I’m sure DOCTOR THORNE will appear on DVD and Blu-ray soon. You’ll be delighted at this Trollopian confection!

Never heard of it. And we don’t have Amazon Prime either, though Jackie has considered it for Bosch and others. And, lastly, this is not particularly in my interest range, though I’m betting we see it sooner or later.

For Tom Hollander, this is quite a departure from playing Corky in THE NIGHT MANAGER, isn’t it? Well, he did play George III in JOHN ADAMS and Mr. Collins in PRIDE AND PREJUDICE, and was in GOSFORD PARK, also from Julian Fellowes.

Jeff, you’re right: Tom Hollander’s Doctor Thorne is a far cry from the murderous Corky in THE NIGHT MANAGER. Hollander, and the others, turn in fine performances. I’m a big fan of AMAZON Prime!

You would have had more success if you’d asked for Hoydens.

Hoydens, trollops, doxies, hussies, and tarts. I think we can agree that, when it comes to women, the lexicon is quite rich.

I can record 6 at a time, many more than I’ve ever needed. My storage capacity has increased, but not sure how much more I’ll have.

the best thing is the voice activation. I’m still getting used to the system, and so far the increased capacity and voice feature are the only ones I really like.

Maggie, we’re trying to watch all the shows we’ve recorded over the past few months. We’re at 73% full. Our goal is to get the DVR under 50% by July.

I’ve spent about 3-5 hours with cox about contour. It won’t let me do a lot I should be able to do, and today it wouldn’t let me record 2 shows at the same time, much less 6 shows.

I found out the person that signed me up for contour only put me down for 2 at a time. That got fixed, but no explanation of why it didn’t work before. The guy did help me with hints on how to toggle in and out of close captioning (something I got in the habit of with shows from the UK)

Maggie, our Time Warner contract has been sold to Charter Communications (aka, “Spectrum”) so I have no idea what our service will be like under this new regime.
