Yes, 100 tons of Buffalo Chicken Wings will be consumed this weekend during the 15th Anniversary of this celebration of the chicken wing. Buffalo is known for a lot of things, chiefly its snow and cold. But we’re also the home of the Buffalo Chicken Wing. This Festival started as a small event over a decade ago. It has grown in popularity each year. Now, vendors from all over the United States are featured at Wingfest. Plus chicken wing vendors from other countries! If you’re a fan of chicken wings, this is an event you will enjoy. Every imaginable kind of chicken wing variation will be available. Thousands of hungry chicken wing lovers will flock to Coca-Cola Field for yummy time! Check out the WINGFEST web site here.
Which reminds me, I’ve never been to Hooters!
Bob, our HOOTERS closed. Now it’s been rehabbed into an ice cream parlor.
Pass. Jackie is the wing fan here. I always give her mine. But she doesn’t like them spicy.
If you’re a wing lover you’d enjoy New York’s Dallas BBQ chain (about 6-8 restaurants). They serve monster-size wings as a very popular appetizer, either fried or with a variety of sauces. Every time we eat there we see a lot of people order them.
Jeff, every imaginable kind of chicken wing will be available at WINGFEST. Mild to Hot and everything in-between! I like pizza better than wings, but I’ve been known to munch on some from time to time. I took Art Scott to the Anchor Bar where Buffalo Chicken Wings were “invented.” Art ordered the “Suicide Wings” and survived!
Well, Art has an asbestos stomach.
Jeff, Art proved it that day!
Wings don’t have any appeal to me. Not enough meat for the effort. Give me a thigh any day!!
Maggie, I prefer the “drumstick” chick wings to the “flat” chicken wings.
Maggie, with me it’s even worse!
Don’t know why (maybe because of some forgotten childhood story) but I don’t like to handle bones – especially with chicken and other small animals like rabbits …
So my wife prepares for me some nice pieces of chicken breast and then we grill them or put them on a hot stone (Japanes style) – stopped using a fryer many years ago, food just gets too fatty! Are there calorie counts on all that recipees? You’d be surprised probably …
However I like hot sauces – but not too hot. This summer my wife for the first time planted various chili and hot parika plants in pots – lovely! we had a very hot summer here in Hungary so she had to water the plants almost every day, but it was worth it!
Coincidence! Last night I took a bag of wings out of the freezer to thaw, not knowing until just now that I’ll be doing my own Wingfest tonight. Anchor Bar Suicide Wings are milder than my own version, though mine are far from really seriously hot. With no deep fryer, I bake them using a slightly modified version of Alton Brown’s recipe.
Art, when we make our own wings, we go the baking route, too. I’m sure that method is “safer” than the deep fryer healthwise.
They vary so much in amount of meat, heat, I seldom take a chance. But I would try them at Wingfest. We have jazz fest this weekend for those able to go. And a million other little festivals. Big weekend in Detroit.
Patti, and Donald Trump is headed to Detroit to speak to African-Americans. What have they got to lose?
My mouth is watering, George. Do they deliver?
Jerry, they deliver for a price. But the extravaganza of WINGFEST is to go from booth to booth to same all the varieties of chicken wings. By the way, are you and you family okay after Hurricane Hermine?
George, I’m afraid the delivery price to my neighborhood would be too steep. Hurricane Hermine missed our end of the Panhandle completely; clear blue skies all day Friday.
Jerry, glad to hear the storm missed you! The East Coast is really getting hit with a lot of rain!
I’ll bet that a heck of an event, and a lot of fun. Wish I could go. Hope the weather is nice for it.
Rick, the temperature is 75, the humidity is low, the sun is shining, and the chick wings are delicious! A perfect day!
I’m a purist: a sauce of equal parts hot sauce and butter, served with blue cheese or ranch dressing to dip. I’m not in Art’s territory, but I like a good, spicy wing. Occasionally, I’ll make more of an Asian style sauce: soy sauce, rice vinegar, brown sugar, garlic, fresh ginger, scallions, red pepper flakes (to taste), and a few drops of sesame oil. Yum!
Deb, yum is right! Barbecue chicken wings are very popular up here. But I’m an old fashioned hot wings guy. Diane likes “medium” wings (which I find too wimpy).
You can get boneless wings, people!
