I quaff a glass a glass of sweet red wine each day (doctor’s orders!) so I’m not familiar with exotic drinks and their components. A friend of my recommended DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps Liqueur saying, “It tastes great!” I’ve tasted Pepermint Schapps (which I liked) so I decided to give Peach Schnapps a try. Fortunately, our local liquor supermarket sent a $5 off coupon so I used it to buy a bottle of DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps Liqueur. You can find plenty of drink recipes here. I like peaches and peach-flavored products (like yogurt) so I found some of these concoctions yummy. Have you ever tried DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps Liqueur? What’s your favorite drink?
I’ve never tried that. I do like chambord and amaretto
Maggie, I love anything with peaches (especially peach cobbler!) so DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps Liqueur appealed to me. You would like it as well!
If you ever come to San Diego, we’ll have to visit the Cravory, a great cookie place. (they started out at farmer’s markets and delivering to college students late at night). Every month they have new flavors and this month one is peach cobbler, made with peaches flambeed in cognac. this month the theme is mardi gras. I”m going there today. When they have new flavors, they give me one free, and I always find more to buy sigh
Maggie, during the Summer, local ice cream and frozen custard places feature peach ice cream. Yummy!
My favorite drink is Caffeine Free Diet Pepsi! I don’t drink enough alcoholic beverages in a year to fill a pair of boots! Schnapps is good! I like Butterscotch the most!
Bob, I’ve never tasted Butterscotch Schnapps. Who knew Schnapps came in so many flavors!
Funny -“Schnaps” is a German word, but this is liquor, obviously with sugar and aroma added (only 30% alcohol by volume) – though I couldn’t find a declaration of ingredients online, a bit strange.
Here in Hungary pure peach Schnaps (aka barack pálinka) is usually drunk – home made with at least 50% alcohol, i e more than 100% proof – really strong.
Cocktails are for sissies!
Btw, barack is the name for peach – nothing to do with Obama …
A bit OT:
Whenever my neighbour comes over for a beer, he gets a pálinka first – and I have to join him, but I’m excused: I drink only half a shot, while he takes the full 30 ml (one ounce).
Btw wiki has not so nice words on Schnapps:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schnapps
An inexpensive heavily sweetened form of liqueur[8] is made in America by mixing neutral grain spirit with fruit syrup, spices, or other flavors. Referred to as “schnapps”, these are bottled with an alcohol content typically between 15% and 20% ABV (30–40 proof), though some may be much higher.
Here in Europe we have strong laws regarding the purity of Schanps etc – you should come over and try it!
Though I have to confess that sometimes people here do similar stuff “adulterating” spirits – which is a crime!
Wolf, the requirements for Kentucky bourbon are very strict, too.
Wolf, people over here love mixed drinks. Like you, I prefer most of my alcoholic beverages straight.
I drank a lot more when we were young, and friends of ours we spent most of our time with were drinkers. Growing up my parents went from beer to screwdrivers to whiskey sours (I was the mix master), before my father switched to Scotch (mostly Dewar’s).
But we mostly dine alone these days, and Jackie doesn’t drink as a rule (maybe an occasional white Zinfandel), so I no longer keep wine in the house and only have an occasional beer or wine out. Mixed drinks are OK but I don’t like Scotch or bourbon or rye. If I had something it would usually be vodka tonic.
Never tried this, and though I do like peaches like you, it doesn’t really appeal to my tastes.
Jeff, I just tried DeKuyper® Peachtree® Schnapps Liqueur because my friend recommended it so strongly. It was a nice change of pace from the sweet red wine I usually drink. If you like peaches, you’ll like this.
As I’ve noted before, I have a very low tolerance for alcohol (my husband calls me a cheap date). I usually have a glass of wine (Asti Spumante) at Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve, and Easter. Once in a while, if we have some in the house, I might Nurse a small glass of Bailey’s Irish Cream poured over ice. Other than that, strictly a water and unsweetened iced tea gal!
Deb, we like Cinzano Asti Spumante for festive occasions like Birthdays, Anniversaries, and New Year’s Eve. It’s sweeter and fruitier than most Asti Spumantes. Ogden Nash once wrote, “Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.”
I almost mentioned Bailey’s. In 1981 we made our one and only trip to Ireland. I came home with a great Aran sweater (that I still have, and wear) and Jackie got a couple of cheap duty-free bottles of Bailey’s. Unfortunately, we had a visit from my grandmother and a few of my aunts, who drank it all.
Jeff, you’re relatives have great taste in alcoholic beverages!
Bailey’s is for putting in coffee!
I’m a Dr Pepper guy.
Bill, Dr. PEPPER has Real Sugar!
Diet Mt Dew. When I used to drink I liked Whiskey Sours. When I stopped hanging around bars about 15 years ago I pretty much stopped drinking except for a occasional beer at a barbecue. Never one to drink at home. Could never drink wine. One glass gives me a horrendous headache.
Steve, usually I’m a Diet Pepsi guy. But my doctor suggested I drink one glass of red wine per day for my heart. I tried about a dozen wines until I stumbled across a local sweet red wine called Ruby. Diane thinks it takes like grape juice!
I have never cared much for after dinner type drinks but I like peach too so I might. Probably will stick to wine and the occasional Margarita though.
Patti, red wine is supposed to support heart health so I’m following my doctor’s suggestion and drinking one glass per day. So far, so good.
I’m like Deb, a very light drinker. I’ll have to tell you all the story about being breathalized when I worked at the courthouse in East County.
In my drinking days, 2 drinks throughout the night was all I could handle.
Maggie, with alcohol less is more.
Glad you’re enjoying it, George. I’ll bet the doctor said red wine, not sweet red wine. You’d be better off with Cabernet.
Liquors are too sweet for my taste, and as a diabetic it’s added sugar I don’t need. I’m not much of a drinker any more, but will have an occasional beer. Last month I had a glass of beer with my meal at a Mexican restaurant and enjoyed that, but liquor? No, thank you.
Rick, you’re right: alcohol gets metabolized as carbohydrates. Dry wines like Cabernet tastes like furniture polish to me. I figure one glass of sweet red wine won’t affect my glucose levels much.
Jackie asked how big a glass you drink. It is 72 calories for a 1 ounce serving. I think she is picturing you drinking a wine glass full.
Jeff, tell Jackie I drink an 8-ounce glass of sweet red wine each day. That’s about 160 calories.
How much schnapps?
