Diane and I will be driving to Toronto by the time you read this. The drive to Toronto takes about two hours. The variables are getting over the International Bridges (Customs can provide extensive delays at times) and Toronto traffic. If you’ve driven in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Houston, San Francisco, or LA you know what Big City traffic can be like. We’re looking forward to seeing Patti & Phil Abbott, Bill Crider, Jeff & Jackie Meyerson, Maggie Mason, and many other friends. Diane can’t wait to hear Louise Penny, one of her favorite writers. I’ll be hanging on Megan Abbott’s every word! And FREE BOOKS!
I’ll be posting a BOUCHERCON report on Monday. I’m sure others will be posting BOUCHERCON reports in Real Time. Hope to see you there!
George, hope you and Diane have a good time at Bouchercon. I look forward to reading your report on the event.
Prashant, BOUCHERCON generated a lot of great memories for me over the years. I think I’ve been to 20 of them!
I’ll be here, keeping America safe from all enemies foreign and domestic! And probably waiting a week for this comment to see the light of day!
Bob, WORDPRESS is just protecting us from “Fake Bob.”
Bouchercon could easily be renamed Meetupwithgreatfriendsoldandnewcon 2017.
Have a blast, George1
Jerry, not only have I had fun with friends at BOUCHERCON, I’ve come away with some great books, too!
George, I couldn’t believe it. There were only TWO cars in front of me when we crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Monday! In August, it took me 25 minutes. The traffic into Toronto at lunch time yesterday moved fairly well, other than getting off the freeway at Spadina.
Looking forward to seeing you two today. Jackie has a list of possible dinner places, depending on your preference.
Weather was gorgeous yesterday, cold and showery today.
P.S. My first Bouchercon was New York, 1977.
Jeff, we almost always take the Rainbow Bridge. GOOGLE Maps and MapQuest usually direct people to the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge which takes FOREVER! It’s raining in Western NY right now. See you this afternoon!
I never could get used to driving on the left-hand side up there. Be CAREFUL!
Dan, the Canadians drive on the RIGHT side of the road. But the QEW resembles the Indy 500! People drive like maniacs despite rain and snow!
Well …
And their speed limits are in km/h – I remember one on the long and winding road along the Niagara river (really nice scenery!) to Niagara on the Lake which said “70”.
For a moment I was flabbergasted …
And there also was a monument to an Indian chief whose name I forgot near the road reminding us of that invasion over the river by the bloody Yankees in 18xx – which was thrown back by proud Canadians, former slaves and Indians!
Hope your invasion was peaceful! 🙂
Everybody have fun!
Wolf, I love Toronto! Great restaurants, great plays, great music! It’s my favorite Big City!
Toronto driving wasn’t as bad as driving in Manhattan or Boston. At least, most people seem to follow the rules of the road, use their turn signals, etc. This is a change from New York and Boston.
Rainy and cool (40s now, high of 53 today) here on the other side of the continent. I’m wearing my SF Bouchercon T-shirt (you weren’t at that one) in honor of the ‘con, and all the friends who will be there starting today or tomorrow. I’m sure you’ll have a fine time socializing and – perhaps – even sit in on a panel or two, besides hanging out in the Book Room.
I think the last time I saw you was at the Vegas B’con.
I’ve driven in NY, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco and L.A. I’d say Chicago was the worst.
Rick, wish you were here in Toronto! We’re all having a great time! I just scored a bagful of vintage paperbacks!
Now I’m glad I’ve never done that, if it is worse than Boston. I don’t like D.C. either – too many one way streets. London is no prize either, or Rome.
