FORGOTTEN MUSIC #79: SOONER OR LATER By BBmak

Back in the 1980s, Boy Bands ruled the BILLBOARD music charts. Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, and a dozen more groups toured and performed relentlessly. One of these groups, BBmak, came from Britain. They achieved modest success with their hit “Back Here.” They featured a clean sound and rugged good looks (a must for successful videos). Do you have a favorite Boy Band? GRADE: B+

No. Hate them all equally. And why are they called bands? They don’t play any instruments. The only thing worse is hair metal bands.

Steve, you are not in the “target market” for boy bands. They appealed mostly to teenage girls. I drove my daughter and her teenage friends to outdoor concerts featuring the Backstreet Boys and N’Sync. I brought earplugs and a book.

Rick, you’re in the same boat as Steve. Boy Bands were marketed to teenage girls. The groups made millions in CD sales and concerts.

Never heard of them – anyway we prefer Blues-Rock, we were already too old for this.
    PS:
The same goes for girl groups-
There’s a tv channel now in Hungary that has only pop music, sometimes oldies, sometimes newer stuff.
But when we get anything from the 80s or 90s my wife usually immediately switches channels – that’s not music in our opinion!
