Diane and I flew to Boston to visit our daughter over the weekend to see how Katie had settled her new condo. We loved all the vibrant colors and plants that made the condo “pop.” To thank us for our role in the buy the condo process, Katie surprised us for helping her by treating us to the Boston version of Hamilton: An American Musical. The sold-out performance we saw was vibrant and entertaining. The cast was diverse and talented. My favorite song in HAMILTON: AN AMERICAN MUSICAL is “My Shot.” Of course, this foreshadows the shot that will kill Hamilton in his duel with Aaron Burr. The music captivated the audience (there was plenty of applause). Since Diane and I had listened to the soundtrack in preparation for the upcoming performance of Hamilton: An American Musical scheduled for Shea’s Performing Arts Center in December (I’ll compare the two performances for you) we were familiar with the songs. Have you seen Hamilton? Do you want to see Hamilton? GRADE: A

Glad you enjoyed it. It has had nothing but great reviews. But I won’t see it. I don’t enjoy musicals. I don’t have any friends that enjoy musicals so I wouldn’t have anybody to go with even if I wanted to. The last musical I saw was Cats. Dragged there as a birthday gift from a girlfriend. Soon to be ex girlfriend. I found it to be the worst two hours of my adult life. I would rather have a root canal. As a kid I got taken by my mother to see the Music Man. Horrible. The worst two hours of my childhood. No I will not be seeing Hamilton.
Steve, I think you might have enjoyed HAIRSPRAY more than CATS or THE MUSIC MAN.
Wow, that’s a really strong negative reaction to any and all musicals! I’m sorry you dislike them so much, Steve, but at least you don’t have to spend any cash on them.
I rarely like the music written for musicals and I just find people breaking into song silly. I don’t hate every musical. I liked Hedwig and the Angry Inch(a real rock musical, not a phony one like Hair) and Cabaret. I would have liked West Side Story if the gang members didn’t all look like members of their high school drama club.
I loved it. My favorite songs were by King George I also liked the “bouncy” skylar sisters song. I’d also listened to the soundtrack a lot, the first disc was my favorite.
I also saw spamilton at the Kirk Douglas theater in the LA area. It was a LOT of fun, (sort of like the forbidden broadway spoofs)
Maggie, King George brought needed comic relief to HAMILTON.
No, and yes. I haven’t and I’d love to, but I don’t expect it to ever show up in this berg, and the tickets cost a fortune, so I probably will have to do with the 2-CD soundtrack, which I like a lot. “The Room Where It Happens” is one of my favorite songs in it, but there are so many great ones.
That was splendid of Katie to get you tickets, wow, what a daughter.
Rick, Katie is something Special (as is Patrick). We lucked out with two really nice kids!
I find I can’t understand the “lyrics” to musicals anymore! I know I won’t spend a small fortune to see one, so, I’m out!
Bob, you’re right about the “small fortune” for concert tickets. We were interested in the SUGARLAND concert at the Fallsview casino in Canada. When I went online to check out the ticket availability, I was shocked that a single ticket was over $500! Needless to say, we passed on that SUGARLAND concert.
can’t, not cab’t!
Bob, I made the corrector for you!
