The NFL Draft inspires hope. Every team in the NFL now has a flock of new players to fantasize about, players that may or may not have an impact next season. The Draft is a brilliant marketing device to keep fans’ interest while the first preseason game is still three months away. The dismal Buffalo Bills, with numerous needs to fill, surprised nearly everybody by drafting C. J. Spiller (pictured above) with the Ninth pick in the First Round. Reportedly, Spiller is the best running back in the Draft. The big question remains: do the Bills have an offensive line to block for Spiller? After missing the playoffs for the past 10 years, losing 13 straight games to divisional opponent New England, and generally sucking, could this be the first step in building a winning team? Stay tuned.
I think the Broncos bought the hype by taking Tim Tebow in the first round.

I respect Tim Tebow as a great guy who could star in a movie, Jeff, but I’m doubtful about his NFL talent. The Broncos moved their quarterback last year and the best receiver in League this year. They’re an enigma.
I gave up on the Lions a long time ago. Ownership of a team should be contingent on producing a winning team after fifty years.
The Lions may be one of the more interesting teams in the NFL, Patti. I like their coach, Jim Schwartz.
The Buffalo Bills are the best. I refer of course to the barbershop harmoney group.
The Buffalo Bills (the football team) are in my DNA, Bob. Despite their poor management and clueless coaches, I still root for them to win.
I also like Schwartz. Looks like he is righting the Lions ship.
As a long-time Broncos fan, and a current resident of Denver, the team makes more sense close-up. Brandon Marshall is a wonderful receiver, but he’s also very immature and narcissistic. In addition, he likes to get into fistfights with his girlfriends, an activity some people frown upon. In the end, Josh McDaniels just got tired of Marshall’s drama. It will be interesting to see how he fares in such a quiet and low-key town like Miami. How could Marshall get into any trouble down there?
The reason Cutler was traded is because he and McDaniels are too much alike. That is to say, both are colossal jerks. McDaniels, who was young and untested as a head coach last year, wanted to show his players that he’s now in charge. Exit QB.
Not coincidentally, most of the players that McDaniels has disposed of were holdovers from the Shannahan regime. New coach wants his own players, apparently.
The reason the Broncos picked Tim Tebow is simple–love! When McDaniels and Tebow first met a few weeks ago, it was an instant bromance. The Gator has football smarts, works hard, is from a winning program, and won’t do anything to embarrass the franchise. Exactly the sort of player McDaniels likes. Despite some misgivings, most of us here are warming to the pick. Tebow has loads of charisma, and he is generating a lot of
excitement.
Of course, if the Tim Tebow Experiment doesn’t pan out, then McDaniels will probably get fired. As a Broncos fan, I hope Tebow is everything McDaniels thinks he is.
Excellent analysis, Drongo! I like Josh McDaniels and I hope he’s successful. But you have to admit, he is rolling the dice with Tebow. The Buffalo Bills have so many needs, it will take two or three more good drafts for them to have enough good players to contend.
I think the Bills are-slowly-on the way up. They were a bit more solid last season that I had expected. Small praise, but still.
Of course, I live far away from Buffalo.
Many Bills fans think that the team will never make the playoffs until a new owner (who wants to win) emerges, Drongo. Ralph Wilson, the senile owner of the Buffalo Bills, is completely out of touch with the day-to-day operations of the franchise. The 10-year playoff drought is the result.
I think the 49ers probably had the best draft.
The Niners certainly added some beef to their offensive line–over 650 lbs worth.
And the 49ers picked up Ted Ginn, Jr. for a song from Miami, Drongo. I think they might have struck gold.
