After the crushing 32-30 conclusion of the Cardinals game where a “Hail Murray” touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins–who was triple covered!–snatched Victory from the Jaws of Defeat, the Bills spent their Bye Week trying to recover and preparing to face Justin Herbert and the LA Chargers. The weather is benign: 50 degrees and sunny (a rarity for this time in November in Western NY). No sign of snow yet! The Bills are 5 1/2 point favorites. How will your favorite NFL team do today?
In a game that I’m still surprised the NFL has not cancelled or at least postponed, the 8-2 Saints journey to Denver to take on the 4-6 Broncos. Yes, the Saints are without starting QB Drew Brees, who is still recovering from broken ribs and a punctured lung suffered in a game two weeks ago, but—because of covid and covid quarantine requirements—the Broncos have NO STARTING QUARTERBACKS available for today’s game! Broncos QB Jeff Driskel tested positive for Covid on Thursday and he’d previously been in planning and training sessions with all the other team QBs—so they are all under quarantine now. If there was ever a moment for Roger Goodell to show some strong leadership by making an unpopular but sensible move, like postponing the game, it would be now—but I do realize that ship has long sailed.
Yeah, just reading that, Deb. Cannot believe they are playing the game. And postponing the Steelers-Ravens yet again is really not working either.
Jeff, the NFL is trying to get the games in before the coronavirus shuts everything down. I watched Dr. Fauci on MEET THE PRESS this morning and he issued some dire predictions for the next two months.
I agree The season should have been postponed or cancelled. Who knows what issues positive players may face in the future, so much isn’t known about the effects of this nasty virus.
Maggie, it’s all about the money for the NFL.
Deb, the Broncos plan to run the ball against the Saints. This might be an easy win for your team.
Luckily the Lions don’t play today having played on Thanksgiving. Their last two games have been horrible. They have finally fired their manager. Something they should have done last season.
Steve, I agree with you on the firing of Matt Patrica. He couldn’t make the transition from being a top-flight coordinator to Head Coach.
How insane is this? If the 3-7 Giants win today in Cincinnati (not beyond the realm of possibility) they will take over FIRST PLACE in the NFC East! I mean, WTF? How pathetic is that. Even though I would not (ever) bet on them, they definitely have a good shot (no Joe Burrows) to win.
I’ll take the Saints and the over.
The NFC East teams as yet none of them have a winning season!!! I wonder if that has ever happened in years gone by. Will all the positive testing league wide, it’s a shame they haven’t cancelled the season
Maggie, the coronavirus has produced some weird situations in the NFL this season. More to come!
Jeff, I’m rooting for the Giants to beat the Bengals. No Joe Burrow means no offensive for the Bengals.
The Lions have broken my heart (well, more my son’s) for the last fifty years. I haven’t watched them in quite a while. George, if Patrick is still there will you ask you what Riesling he recommends. I’d like to try that for Christmas. Thanks.
Patti, Patrick says he likes Trius Dry Riesling VQA 750mL.
Patti, it can sometimes be hard to find a specific Riesling. Look for a label identifying the importer — anything marked “a Terry Theise selection” is probably pretty good. (I’m not an expert, but I’ve read wine writers say that, and it’s worked for me.)
I think the NFL season is headed towards a premature ending. With the number of COVID cases increasing everywhere, it’s just going to be impossible to continue.
I wish I could watch the Saints/Broncos game today. It makes me nostalgic for the old Baltimore Colts. In 1965, this happened to them, and they had to use a running back — Tom Matte — as qb. He did well. He won the final game of the season, and was competitive in the first game of the postseason, losing in overtime.
Jeff, I think the NFL should consider a “bubble” strategy for the Playoffs.
Seahawks play tomorrow night, at Eagles. They “should” win, but they have been struggling on defense they last three games, so we’ll see. In the strong NFC West, the Rams and 49ers play, so one of them will lose. The race will tighten.
George, you’re hung up on that “Hail Murray” expression.
Rick, the “Hail Murray” catch will go down in NFL history. A miracle catch!
The Eagles basically suck, Rick, so I would be fairly confident the Seahawks will win. I certainly hope so.
The greedy NFL will find a way to play the Super Bowl if they have to do it with ten players on each team.
Michael, it’s all about the money. Just look at what the NFL did to the Denver Broncos: forced them to play without a quarterback. A certain defeat for Denver!
Well, the Giants did hang on for a 19-17 win. And good for Seattle but not Buffalo, Arizona blew it late in Foxboro to the Patriots. Buffalo is up 10 with two minutes left.
And the Jets’ quest for 0-16 continues unabated.
Jeff, the Bills played a sloppy game with multiple turnovers. Fortunately, they were playing the Bad Luck Chargers who couldn’t convert the turnovers into a enough paints to win.
Thanks, Patrick and Jeff. Will look for this although it might not be the best time to wine shop.
Patti, you can shop online and have it mailed to your address. I order wine online all the time!
