We are preparing our traditional Easter dinner: lamb, marinated overnight in Greek yogurt, lemons, onions, garlic, and spices, cooked for several hours on the Big Green Egg, creamed spinach, Yorkshire puddings, mashed potatoes, and gravy. In addition, Julia and I made a “Guinness chocolate cake” (where some of the liquid in the batter is replaced by Guinness stout beer) which we are icing this morning with a buttercream frosting that has Bailey’s Irish Cream in it. Over-the-top—but for once a year, so worth it!
Yum! What time should we be there, Deb! Sounds so good.
We’re having leftover Greek food – grilled chicken, lemon potatoes, tzatziki, pita and a Greek salad – and staying home as I recover from an annoying cold.
I believe George said that Diane and her sister were baking yesterday so there should be plenty of goodies for the Kelley Easter in Ohio.
Jeff, Carol and Diane baked Madelines yesterday, but Carol’s Ohio family members ate them all! So Lemon Cake, placek, and brownies will have to do for the Easter meal. Our tradition is to serve Polish food for Easter to celebrate our Polish heritage so that’s why Polish sausage, pierogi, kapusta, placek, and rye bread are on the menu.
Deb, your menu sounds delicious! Diane’s sister is hosting her family today. Ham, polish sausage, pierogi, kapusta, sweet potato casserole, veggie salad, homemade applesauce, and rye bread will be headed for the Easter table. Diane and I are going to make Mac & Cheese for the younger crowd. Desserts include Lemon Cake, placek, and brownies. Happy Easter to you and your family!

I’m still mainly in bed, rehab is taking its time but maybe next weekend I’ll go home. Saw a picture of the Easter bunny from yesterday SNL, really funny.
We used to have all the relatives over for Easter Egg hunts, and the little kids loved it, but we had trouble deciding what to put in the plastic eggs, what with allergies, dietary restrictions and parental controls. I suggested disposable plastic lighters. They’re brightly colored, kids love’ em….
Rick, actually my parents “recycled” the plastic Easter eggs year after year. I was hoping they would increase the quarters in the eggs to half-dollars, but that never happened.
My wife Also recycled last year’s plastic eggs for the you ones.

When I read kapusta I wondered…
And then I realized:
In Hungarian it is kaposzta, Kraut, another loan word.
While everyone else is having feasts, ours is sliced ham and a green salad with tomato and cucumber. Yes, we’re dieting. Barbara bought 2 donuts yesterday for our dessert. Tomorrow it’s open faced tunafish sandwiches and cole slaw. Yippee.
The Easter Bunny has certainly changed from when I was a kid! May the Kelley clan all have Easter baskets filled with happiness (and goodies!).
Jerry, we woke up to 32 degree temps here in eastern Ohio! I think the Eastern Bunny is frozen in the back yard!

Dan, my parents put quarters in the Easter Eggs for the Hunt. Guess who always found the most eggs!

Rick, I’m a big fan of cole slaw! Art Scott, on the other hand, disdains all vegetables!
We ate a lot of tuna salad sandwiches in Florida. Jackie loves cole slaw too.
Jeff, The Hideaway Grille has wonderful cole slaw so we include a pint of it with every Take-Out Order.
I’ve never equated Easter with ice skating! Kelley is Polish?! Must be one of those Ellis Island changes from Czklli!
Bob, my father was Irish and my mother was Polish. I prefer Polish food to Irish food.
