Dante’s Divine Comedy garners my vote as the Most Unusual Book of the year. Seymour Chwast adapts Dante’s masterpiece, Inferno, Purgatory, and Paradise into a graphic novel format. The result is a black & white noirish retelling of the classic story. Purists will be offended, but I found Chwast’s effort impressive. There’s some startling graphic on nearly every page. You should definitely check this out. GRADE: A-
Goodness, or should I say badness. The writer/artist must have really liked Dante to take this on, a labor of love.
And Seymour Chwast does a fabulous job on THE DIVINE COMEDY, Rick. It’s an amazing, though quirky, masterpiece!
That name reminds me of the old book titles jokes we told as kids. You know, THE YELLOW RIVER, by I.P. Freely, and the like.
Bob, my favorite name is from GOLDFINGER: Pussy Galore.
And her sister, Parking Galore. But I’m talking about silly book titles/authors like The African Queen, by Erasmus B. Black; The Glass Bikini, by Seymour Hairs; Antlers in the Treetops, by Whogoosed D. Moose.
There aren’t many of those types of books in the Kelley Collection, Bob.
