Alas, no kids at all at our house. Not sure what that says. Last minute candy run for naught…Alice not wanting too much temptation, and I not needing it at all.
Todd, we only had a few Snickers Fun Size bars left after we turned our outside lights off at 8 P.M. They’ll be consumed over the weekend.
Deb
Rain in the forecast tonight, so I’m not sure how many trick-or-treaters we’ll get. John bought a couple of big bags of mixed candies…when that’s gone (or at 8:00 pm, whichever comes first), we’ll turn off the porch light and call it a night.
Deb, our Halloween hours are 5:00-8:00. Diane bought THREE big bags of mixed candies so we should be okay. The mild weather might bring a record number of trick-or-treaters to our door tonight.
I’m going as a Childless Cat Lady and am dressing all the animals in the house as Revenge-Seeking, Haitian-Eating Springfield Pets.,,Should go over well in the MAGA-loving Florida Panhandle.
Todd, the weather here has been abnormally high so Western NY is experiencing record breaking early voting right now. The forecast for Election Day is…75 degrees! That’s 25 degrees above Normal!

We’ll go out with our younger daughter, son-in-law, and two-year old granddaughter. Quick trip around their neighbourhood before it gets dark. We used to accompany our other grandkids, but at 15 and 11, they’ve aged out of trick-or-treat.
We haven’t had any trick or treaters here in years – they go on the Avenue in the afternoon, where even the Chinese takout place has bowls of candy for the kids, or to the one and two family houses behind us. The apartment houses don’t get much action, even from kids who live in the building, so Jackie wouldn’t let me buy a bag o’chocolate.
When we were kids, before we moved to Brooklyn we lived in an apartment building and I remember ca, 1957 going around the two buildings on our block. My brother and I and a close friend all were Zorro (then current on Disney), with another friend dressed as a French chef.
Trick or treat in Waukesha is always on Halloween and always in the dark (5-7 pm) – the best way.
I love seeing the kids; they’re always so excited over the candy.
Last year the weather was SNOW so only 13 hardy souls. This year it’s colder but I think the rain will hold off.
I never guess correctly in regard to the number of goblins who visit my house. My neighbourhood has changed over the years with only a few young families. Because I live in what is considered by many people in other areas of the city as being an upper-class neighbourhood, we do get people coming here with their kids. I usually end up with more goodies than I needed. I have to go out around 5 p.m. and won’t be back until 7;30 or so, I am putting out my stuff on a table on my front step with a sign Happy Halloween Don’T Be Greedy. We shall see.
I unbagged all the candy. 480 pieces, which considering the mild weather won’t be near enough. We may be going dark early this year. (We usually make it to 8-8:30.)
7:23, we’re done. The street is still packed. A giant dinosaur just walked by. The first girl I had to tell we were out of candy just smiled and said, “Okay, Happy Halloween.”
A lot of beautiful witches and princesses. Some little plastic army guys, dressed in green khakis with green face and hand makeup. Many Beetlejuices. The littlest Hulk I’ve ever seen. Two great family costumes. One was the entire Wizard of Oz cast. Another, the little kid was the Cookie Monster and the parents were two giant cookies. A lot of fun as usual. Ann nicely decorated our porch and front lawn.
Jeff, we saw plenty of color and creative costumed kids tonight. But the stand-out was a father pulling a wagon decorated as a helicopter! His 10-year-old son broke his leg and his father built a helicopter structure to attach to the wagon. He pulled his son from house to house. Diane gave the kid with the broken leg extra candy…and gave the Dad extra candy, too!
Jeff, our Halloween trick-or-treating hours are 5-8. We had a surge of kids from 5:30 to 7:00 and then things slowed down. We passed out 97% of our candy.
Sounds like you guys had a fun night. Quiet as usual here.

Our Hungarian LIDL still had masses of Halloween stuff yesterday when we went shopping, not only candy. Maybe they’l sell it half price tomorrow – today is All Saints Day and all stores are closed.
So they also have a problem to find space for the Santa Claus and Xmas stuff that already arrived.
Just don’t think about the piles of sugar and other unhealthy stuff in there. OK, a few sweets – but now children get them everx day – and chips in the evening …
At my last-hours shopping run, they actually had seasonal shelves full of Xmas-branded candy (not so much Channukah coins, yet). The cashier told me most of the Hallooween candy at Wegman’s was gone by the end of last week. Certainly what was hit hard last night were drink mixers…no Polar sugarless Half and Half for me, and my usual sugarless Vernor’s wiped out (for unclear reasons, Vernor’s, the best non-frou-frou ginger soda, as they put it, is the least expensive in 2L bottles. I will not complain).
Todd, our Wegmans grocery story was low on sodas of all brands, drink mixers, and candy of all sorts. Some of our friends ran out of candy because of the record number of trick-or-treaters who showed up last night and had to turn their lights off early.
What are you going as this year?
Dan, I’ll be handing out candy to the 100+ kids who show up tonight. The weather is mild–70 degrees!–and no rain until later tonight.

Jerry, Childless Cat Ladies will be out in force on Halloween…and Election Day!
And notably in early voting. I’m a childless cat-former-lad, myself.

Fred, Diane loves the cute costumes the little kids wear when they come to our door. The teenagers who show up in make-shift costumes…not so much.

Beth, by the end of October in Western NY, snow was always in the forecast. No more. We’re in the 70s this week with a chance of rain tomorrow.
