MOBLAND [Paramount+]

Tom Hardy plays Harry Da Souza, a “fixer” for the Harrigan crime family in London. The Harrigans are ruled by ruthless Conrad (Pierce Brosnan) and his cunning wife, Maeve (Helen Mirren). Their Irish clan, who dominates the London drugs and guns scene, are prone to excess and violence which requires Harry to constantly fix.

I’m not a big fan of mob movies or series. My chief complaint is the organized crime dramas blend menace and treachery to such a point that there really is nobody to root for. MOBLAND has Harry Da Souza–the glue that’s keeping the criminal enterprise together–but with each episode, more and more dysfunction occurs to the point that Harry can’t fix all the problems.

This 10 episode series has a great cast and an intense plot that will keep me watching until the end. Are you a fan of mob movies? GRADE: Incomplete but trending towards a B+

No. I have no interest in this – Guy Ritchie – but Jackie plans to watch it. She caught up with Outlander and is watching Virgin River now, but this is on her list, along with a couple of Harlan Coben series I have no interest in watching.

Jeff, normally I’m not interested in organized crime dramas, but I’m a fan of Tom Hardy–a very underrated actor–and the London setting is captivating.

I like Tom Hardy, but I seldom see him as the projects he chooses are not to my taste. And I agree with Jeff M: Guy Ritchie’s name on something means I’m not going to watch it.

I like a lot of the Warner Brothers mob movies of the thirties and am crazy about film noir. I likewise enjoy a chunk of well-written crime fiction from the thirties through the seventies but “The Godfather” killed my interest in the mob genre and “The Sopranos” did nothing to change my mind. Also, if Guy Ritchie is involved this is an even harder pass. I don’t doubt it’s watchable but not my cup of tea. I hope you enjoy it.

Byron, so far I’ve enjoyed MOBLAND. New episodes drop on Sundays. Tom Hardy performs brilliantly! And London never looked so good!

I am interested in watching this because of the actors, but I have the same problem with this type of show as you do. I have a hard time rooting for the characters. We may give it a try anyway.

Tracy, Tom Hardy’s performance has lured me into MOBLAND. I think you’ll enjoy it, too, despite the dark world it portrays…

Patti, Paramount+ has all the CBS shows and a bunch of series. Some cable networks bundle Paramount+ with other streaming services.
