I didn’t laugh once. Yes, this British version of Saturday Night Live has all the format features of the US version, but it just wasn’t funny. You would think that Tina Fey would inject some humor into the premier of this show…but no.
The musical group, Wet Leg, was awful. The female lead singer belted out lyrics like “People want to fuck me.”
Diane and I skip a lot of skits in Saturday Night Live US–we typically watch the opening, the host monologue, and Weekend Update. Most of the music groups are not to our taste. The Saturday Night Live UK Weekend Update was lame.
Saturday Night Live UK will be available on Peacock the day after the British broadcast. We won’t be watching. GRADE: C-

Haven’t seen the whole thing yet, just some clips…wasn’t too impressed. But, then, SNL US has had its bad episodes, and seasons. I, too tend to catch the Weekend Update if nothing else of the mothership.
Todd, frequently SNL’s WEEKEND UPDATE is the highlight of the show.
I still watch SNL, but the quality of the cast seems to deteriorate each year. I tape everything I watch so I can fast forward thru commercials and also most of the musical guests. I also like weekend update. I’m guessing the UK edition won’t be to my taste , thanks for the warning.
On another note, I’m planning on going to the La Jolla no kings protest today (avoiding high heat at the inland ones and enormous crowds at the waterfront). I’m glad I have a rollator to help with standing and walking in a crowd. Larry’s umpiring a little league game this morning so waiting for him to get back.

Maggie, as the SNL cast increases–they seem to have 20 comedians right now!–the quality goes down. Hundreds of people showed up for Buffalo’s NO KINGS protest today!
For mobility reasons I could not attend any of the six local rallies today but i made sure to wear any anti-Trump tee-short and placed a home-made “8647” sign non my car, both of which received positive comments. Small steps.

I wasn’t able to go. Larry got overheated at the game today and I can’t manage on my own. All other people I know went to earlier places. I’m thrilled to see all the cities with massive crowds.

HAVE I GOT NEWS FOR YOU (US) on CNN and HBO (but for how much longer?) on Saturdays and Sundays, which is running its season finale (sigh) tonight, is consistently good, by me. The UK original starts its new season in early April, and I see that on YouTube…as far as I know, no one else circulates it in the US (and I’m not ready to pick up new-to-us streamers such as Peacock–putting out enough on Netflix and HBO along with cable).
Todd, the networks, especially PARAMOUNT+, are making sweeping changes in programing and staff. It’s all about the money…

Looking at some more clips, the Attenbororough clones of the dead and a few living dinner party sketch starts well, Churchill giving the audience the bird seems fair game, but it falls over sideways as it goes on. I think the series could get better as they settle in as a unit.

Wet Leg do seem to live down to their name…sadly, musical guests have only infrequently been a strength of the series.

I haven’t watched SNL in three or four decades! People protesting No Kings are missing a big point! The POTUS is more powerful than any king! Why would he want to take a demotion and be a king?
