Back in the 1970s, I listened to Kate and Anna McGarrigle’s The Dancer With Bruised Knees and I fell in love with their crystal-clear voices and complex songs. But, years later, the McGarrigles’ brand of intelligent music seemed to fall out of favor. Then, in 2010, Kate McGarrigle died of sarcoma. Tell My Sister is a three-CD set of remastered versions of the McGarrigles’ first two classic albums and a collection of previously unreleased songs. Kate McGarrigle will be celebrated in a two-night tribute at New York’s Town Hall on May 12 and May 13 with performances by Anna McGarrigle, Kate’s children Martha and Rufus Wainwright, Emmylou Harris, and others. After listening to these three wonderful CDs, I wish I could be there. GRADE: A

I have one of the CDs and play it all the time. Not a miss on it.
Like you, I love the McGarrigles’ music, Patti. Nobody makes music like this any more.
It’s not surprising that Linda Ronstadt (who had good taste) covered some of their songs, including Heart Like a Wheel and Talk to Me of Mendocino. After all, she also did a lot of Warren Zevon (besides singing backup on his Werewolves of London).
I almost posted a Linda Ronstadt video, Jeff. Linda had a great sense of choosing wonderful songs to sing. I wish I could attend those memorial concerts in your town.
Some people still do their kind of music, but the atrocious Rufus W certainly doesn’t. Despite his presence, I’ll probably need this album.
Rufus Wainwright is NOT on TELL MY SISTER, Todd. But he will perform at the NYC memorial concerts.
Well, that’s only proper. I hate his voice and his repertoire and his ‘tude, but I could stand him there, too, probably.
The remastered sound on TELL MY SISTER is excellent, Todd. You’ll really enjoy these 3 CDs! I’m not a Rufus fan, either.
