ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: Quantumania

I hope I’m not spoiling anyone’s expectations of Anti-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania when I say that this Ant-Man 3 movie is basically a 2-hour trailer for the upcoming Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. A powerful villain, Kang, gets exiled in the Quantum Realm and just coincidently, Kang meets up with Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer) who was rescued by Hank Pam (Michael Douglas), the genius who communicates with ants and designed the shrinking/expanding Ant-Man suit. Kang uses lures Janet Van Dyne into helping him restore his incredible technology.

Many viewers will be disappointed by the diminished role of Paul Rudd as Ant-Man. But Director Peyton Reed and writer Jeff Loveness concoct a frenetic film with the need to give screen time to Quantum Realm rebels like telepath Quaz (William Jackson Harper) and Cassie (Kathryn Newtown)–Ant-Man’s grown up daughter. Even more viewers (like me) who love The Wasp (aka, Hope Van Dyne) played by Evangeline Lilly will notice The Wasp pretty much isn’t given much to do until the final Big Battle.

Much of Anti-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania concerns introducing the latest MARVEL supervillain, Kang (Jonathan Majors), who has mastered Time and plans to conquer the Multiverse…when he figures out how to escape from the Quantum Realm. In one of his villain speeches to Ant-Man, Kang declares he’s killed trillions in his conquests…including Avengers. More foreshadowing of possible Avenger deaths in future movies. Anti-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania was about as satisfying as eating a Twinkie. GRADE: B

Looks like your review is pretty much the same as most I have read. Too bad. I like Paul Rudd and hate to seem him wasted. Why are all of these movies so dark? I can hardly make out what is going on. I guess it’s to do with the computer graphics.

Patti, I agree with you on the actual darkness of so many movies and TV shows. I’m watching the Second Season of THE BAD BATCH on Disney+ and most of the episodes are murky!

Jackie was waiting for the reviews to see if it was worth paying money for (no way I was interested(, but the reviews were universally abysmal. I thought the first two were OK. It’s no replacement for IRON MAN.

Jeff, only MARVEL would devote a whole movie as a commercial for a yet unmade movie: AVENGERS: THE KANG DYNASTY. As Patti wrote, it’s a shame when good actors are wasted in these movies. I loved the IRON MAN movies but a lot of the success rests on the performances of Robert Downey Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow.

The MCU may be reaching the point of diminishing returns. THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER drew mostly tepid reviews. WAKANDA FOREVER made a good batch of money, but short of BLACK PANTHER’s juggernaut. I was there for Kang the Conqueror’s first appearance in the Avengers comic; and if I recall correctly, he was also the Fantastic Four’s Rama-Tut, the Pharaoh from the Future, under a different name.

Fred, usually our local AMC Theater is sold-out for MARVEL movies. But ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA was less than half full at our 3:00 P.M. performance. And, Diane and I were the only ones wearing masks.

If it comes to hbo or netflix or amazon, I’ll watch it

Just finished Grace and Frankie and miss that.

I have HBO & Peacock & Larry has amazon and netflix, so when I was dog sitting for 2 weeks, I caught up. Finally saw where the crawfish sing, and enjoyed it, though I had forgotten the ending. sometimes senior moments help prevent ruining things watching the second time

Maggie, Diane’s Book Club read WHERE THE CRAWFISH SING and loved it. They planned to go see the movie based on the book, but that didn’t happen.
