For a mere $7.98 you could be the proud owner of 3 DVDs (over six hours!) of a documentary of one of the funniest groups in the history of comedy. Almost the Truth samples the 39 episodes on the BBC, includes segments from the movies, and features interviews with the members of the group. The documentary spans their early struggles, BBC censorship, and how Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd bankrolled Monty Python and The Holy Grail. If you’re a Monty Python fan, this is a must-buy. If you’re a casual fan, this 3-DVD set is an incredible value. Just clink on salebooks.com to start buying!
One of the few bennies of being peripheral to this industry is that I got a screener of this one in advance, and I did thoroughly enjoy it (even, as at least one reviewer noted, if the Pythons might be getting a little tired of recounting this chunk of their lives). The fake Shirley Bassey singer (from previous work with the Pythons, notably LIFE OF BRIAN) and the slightly morphing theme (from episode to episode) are worth any reasonable price by themselves…
I totally agree with you, Todd. There are some moments on these DVDs that are fall down laughing funny. And, at $7.98 you can’t go wrong with this purchase.
I will look for it on Netflix, George.
There are plenty of laughs on these three DVDs, Patti. You’ll enjoy them. And, check your mailbox tomorrow.
These gentlemen have enriched my life to no end. I can hardly remember a time when I wasn’t a fan.
No thanks, I have never been a fan of MP. While the rest of the world seems to find them somewhere between very funny and laugh-cry-scream-fall down funny, I just roll my eyes and mutter “oh, brother” and look for the Off Switch. I’m glad the rest of you can enjoy this stuff so much, though.
Diane is not a Monty Python fan, either, Rick. Different strokes for different folks.
Yikes! Gotta see it. Meanwhile, I’m going to listen to some Led Zeppelin to show my appreciation.
I listened to some Pink Floyd, Evan.
