What a deal!
Even if you had the hardcover edition, buying these bargain volumes for “spares” makes sense, Bill.
God forgive me for admitting this, but I have only read Hounds of the Baskervilles. I am an uneducated pretender.
I envy all the great Sherlock Holmes’ adventures ahead of you, Patti!
I have the entire canon on the shelf. I’ve looked at this edition, and couldn’t see why I’d want it in addition to what I have. Spares? I don’t need no stinkin’ spares. At least not until somebody buys me a mansion with an extra 1000 feet of shelving.
Patti, it’s time.
Yes, but what about the annotations, Rick? They’re worth their weight in gold.
I was at Kate Derie’s house (yes, that was a name drop) just after she got her copy of the set, and I spent an hour browsing the annotations. Though some were interesting, over-all my opinion is I’d rather just re-read the stories, and what I have is fine for that. Sometimes, annotated editions are more trouble than they are worth, methinks.
I know what you mean, Rick. Sometimes annotated editions get in the way of reading the work. But my impression of the ANNOTATED SHERLOCK HOLMES was that the annotations added to the experience. At least, that’s what Michael Chabon said in his NEW YORK REVIEW OF BOOKS article.
Any kung fu? The upcoming movie looks like it has every Rambo trope possible.
I know plenty of Sherlockians who are planning to boycott the movie, Bob. Sherlock Holmes, Action Hero. Just doesn’t compute.
