BROADCHURCH, SEASON TWO BEGINS

David Tennant returns as a damaged homicide detective. Olivia Colman, Tennant’s traumatized partner, will have to deal with the aftermath of a child’s murder that was the basis of the investigation in Broadchurch Season One. BBC America starts this 8-episode series off tonight at 10 P.M (E.S.T). I really liked Broadchurch and the Americanized version, Grace Point. I’m curious to see the further unwinding of this tale.

It has just finished its run in the UK – it remains beautifully shot and very smartly put together. The response appears to have been ultimately somewhat muted here, but I suspect this has more to do with the huge success of the first rather than any major criticism of the follow-up (which is a very close sequel, in itself a brave choice perhaps). Very curious to know what you make of it – for myself, I was glad to hear that a third season has been commissioned but hope that they will start a brand new storyline – they have truly finished this one off in my eyes.

Sergio, I’m with you on continuing the dead child story-line. The American version of BROADCHURCH, GRACE POINT, had a different ending. But GRACE POINT was not renewed for a second session. I’m glad to hear BROADCHURCH is coming back for third season.

We binge watched Season One over the course of a couple of nights. I loved it, but felt rather let down by the ending which seemed a bit tacked on. However, I’ll certainly watch season two (when it gets to Netflix because our basic cable package does not include BBC America); there are several story lines from season one I’d like to see resolved, such as what happened to the woman in the trailer with her dog?

I never thought I would say this but there are too many good shows on TV now. It is hard to keep up with them without watching too much. And even the networks are starting to wise up. BATTLE CREEK wasn’t half bad.

One result of our switch from Time Warner to Fios (the only negative I can think of) was that we no longer have BBC America. I’m more concerned about this for the new series of ORPHAN BLACK than BROADCHURCH. In any case, that’s why DVDs exist.

From what I’ve read, they get Colman back in the show when (SPOILER ALERT: IF YOU DIDN’T SEE SEASON ONE STOP READING NOW I MEAN IT!) her husband refuses to plead guilty for the murders in the previous series. (END SPOILER) While she’s there, Hardy dragoons her into helping him with the new case.
