BUFFALO BILLS VS. BALTIMORE RAVENS [NBC SUNDAY NIGHT]

For some inexplicable reason, Vegas has the 3-0 Buffalo Bills 3-point underdogs to the 1-2 Baltimore Ravens. Yes, Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are potent runners. Yes, the game is being played in rainy Baltimore. Yes, the “experts” didn’t expect the Bills to be undefeated three games into the 2024 season.

I expect the Bills vs. Ravens game to be a close game. Weather conditions may affect the game with slipping and sliding and fumbling a wet football. How will your favorite NFL do today?

With luck the rain will be over by gametime.

The Vegas odds are purely set to get equal numbers of people to bet on both sides. If more people are betting one team over the other, the odds change. Why is Baltimore favored by 2.5-3 points? Because that’s what it takes to smooth the betting out.

After starting the season 2-0, with an impressive offensive performance that ran up over 90 points in the course of two games, the Saints were brought abruptly back to earth last week in a lackluster game they lost to the Eagles. So the now 2-1 Saints journey to Atlanta (I assume the airport has reopened) to take on the Falcons. I’m hoping the Boys in Black & Gold regain some of that early season mojo, but only time will tell.

As I predicted, the weak Giants lost to a very beatable Cowboys team on Thursday night, because they couldn’t run the ball against a weak run defense and they couldn’t get into the end zone. Pathetic. Five field goals is NOT going to do it.

Jeff, if the Giants had had Saquon Barkley, they would have beaten the Cowboys. Five field goals is NOT going to do it in today’s NFL. You have to score TDs.

49ers did not have much trouble dismissing the Pats today, but your Bills are getting run thru the meat grinder so far (21-3). They’ll need more than rain showers to get a boost out of the hole they’re in. How did Ravens lose 2 of the first 3 games? Wishing the Bills best of luck avoiding serious injury for the last quarter and a half.

Not playing in synch at all. If they can keep this up, they’ll be pretty scary.

I thought there were three great plays in the game.

The first-play 87-yard touchdown run, which the Ravens practiced all week. They saw in films that Buffalo used a certain defensive formation early. As soon as they recognized it for the first snap, they had their play set, and every Raven executed their blocks perfectly.

The Ravens defense blowing up the ill-advised trick play and recovering the fumble, halting the Bills’ momentum.

Josh Allen, running for his life and heading for the sideline, seeing a receiver get open way downfield and making a perfect pass to him. A real *wow* moment.

Jeff, I totally agree with your assessment! As soon as Henry scampered for that 87-yard TD, I told Diane: “The Bills are in deep trouble.” The trick play was a disaster. If the Bills had just continued to march down the field an score a touchdown, it would have been 21-17 and a real close game. Instead, the Bills gave up another TD to the Ravens that pretty much ended the game for them. Josh Allen needed to make two or three more *wow* plays to stay with the Ravens. Right now, I’m willing to pronounce the Ravens the best team in the AFC!
