BUFFALO BILLS VS. KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (NBC Sunday Night Football)

The Buffalo Bills (3-1) travel to take on the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) in a rematch of the AFC Championship game. The Bills lost to the Chiefs 38-24 in that game. But riding a three-game win streak, the Bills hope to achieve a road victory in one of the toughest stadiums to win in. The Bills are 3-point underdogs.

Meanwhile legions of whiners, back-seat drivers, curbside experts, rear-view-mirror thinkers, and second guessers still consider the KC Chiefs the best team in the AFC. We’ll see how that plays out. How will your favorite NFL team perform today?

My team is the Detroit Lions. How will they perform? Who knows, but they are 0-4 so far and keep finding new ways to lose weekly. Memories of their 0-16 season are running through my mind. Could it be 0-17 this year?

Jerry, it’s not just KC Chiefs fans. It’s the pre-game “experts,” the obnoxious radio commentators, and the now pervasive sports betting gurus with their “hot takes” and “can’t lose” predictions.

Couldn’t agree with you more about the sports betting “experts”—I hate everything that has been swept in as a result of legalized sports gambling. The MLB Network actually has an entire show built around odds & gambling. And the hosts are just as sleazy as you’d expect. Add to that the fact that every other commercial sponsoring a televised sporting event seems to be from Draft Kings or Fan Duel and you get the impression that sports is run 100% by gambling interests. And you’re not telling me that with the big money involved in gambling, we’re not going to start getting players paid to take dives or shave points or miss goals or throw balls not strikes. You might as well put Shoeless Joe and Pete Rose in the Baseball Hall of Fame now.

        /Dismounting soapbox now.

Deb, I totally agree with you on the gambling aspects of sports today. Hard to trust the “integrity” of the NFL, MLB, etc. when so many millions are at stake.

Totally agree with Deb’s soapbox. Every time I see that crazed-looking woman pushing Fan Duel I go for the remote. And now we have the busiest man in show business, Patton Oswalt, pushing Caesars Sports Book. It is absolutely UNCONSCIONABLE that they are allowed to advertise big-time sports gambling on television. This should be BANNED the same way cigarette advertising was banned. There are so many obvious reasons, but beyond putting people into a spiral of debt, the latest is people on the streets who have been attacking players for “costing them money” when they lose a bet. This will not end well.

Jeff, you just know millions of sports fans are becoming addicted to sports gambling just like they’re addicted to Facebook, Instagram, Tik ToK, and Twitter. And look what happened there!

I won’t call them “my team” but the hapless Falcons have been shipped to London to play the equally hapless Jets. Many Atlantans, myself included, hope they stay there.

Go Bills! So far, they are far better than the Chiefs and the rest of the AFC. Doesn’t guarantee they will win today, but fingers crossed.

The Giants finally woke from their stupor in the second half (and especially, in overtime) in New Orleans last week, but now they have to go into the lion’s den against the hated Cowboys, clearly the class of a weak division. Not expecting much, but let’s hope Jason Garrett has a few surprises in store for his former team.

After a dispiriting loss to the Giants last week, the 2-2 Saints are limping to D.C. to take on the 2-2 Washington team. As to which team will win, in depends on which Saints team shows up: the offensive powerhouse or the hapless Swiss cheese defense.

Meanwhile joy reigns in our house today because the Dodgers tied their playoff series with the Giants last night; and the Astros could clinch their ticket to the ALCS with a win over the White Sox tonight.

The Seahawks are lousy, in last place after losing to the Rams on Thursday. I think the new offensive coordinator is on the wrong path, and poor drafts the last five years are showing in a lackluster pass defense and thin O-line. I feel sorry for Russell Wilson.

Thank you, Rick. I don’t necessarily agree with all of his choices, but when it comes to “The Chairman,” you can hardly go wrong with anything prior to the 1970s. And I see the article was written by Billy Vera—known back in the day for his band, Billy Vera and the Beaters, and their hit, “At This Moment.” Nice to know he’s a fan.
