I’m a big fan of Dilbert and the ever-generous Beth Fedyn (knowing this) sent me Scott Adams clever How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big. I’ve read Scott Adams’ other books and enjoyed them. How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big tells the story of Scott Adams’ unlikely success. As Adams admits, he doesn’t have a lot of drawing talent. He’s mediocre at many things. But the synergy of all that mediocrity (plus a ton of luck) lead to Scott Adams’ success. I was fascinated by Adams’ physical problems: first, a hand problem that threatened to derail his cartooning career and second, a more serious problem that involved Adams’ speech center. The doctors told Adams his conditions were “incurable.” But Adams’ didn’t accept that and the stories of his struggles to overcome his problems are astonishing. Anyone who reads How to Fail at Almost Everything and Still Win Big can’t help but come away inspired. GRADE: B+
Or read my upcoming biography, HOW TO FAIL AT EVERYTHING AND END UP A FAILURE, JUST AS MOTHER NATURE INTENDED.
Bob, Luck factors into Scott Adams’ success Big Time.
That should be autobiography. See, failed again.
Bob, Scott Adams says we must learn from our failures.
I haven’t read Dilbert in years but used to enjoy it. I also read Adams’ blog and found him to be a very interesting guy. Will have to try and remember to check this one out.
Jeff, you’re right: Scott Adams is a very interesting guy. He parleyed his limited talent into a Big Success.
He has what he needed: intelligence and a sense of humor. Dilbert is in our newspaper, I read it every day.
Rick, our newspaper, BUFFALO NEWS, puts DILBERT on the Business Page. I read it every day, too!
Glad you enjoyed the book, George.
I didn’t know about Adams’ physical problems. Apart from that, he is fearless – both personally and financially.
I recently saw an article about the benefits of rejection. Adams has taken that concept and run with it. I think this book made me like Dilbert even more.
Beth, I’ve always liked DILBERT. But reading Scott Adams’ HOW TO FAIL AT ALMOST EVERYTHING AND STILL WIN BIG made me appreciate he has accomplished. Thanks again for this wonderful book! You’re the best!
Sounds very inspirational and I need some right now. Will look for it.
