Diablo Cody wrote the screenplays for Juno and the just released Young Adult. But, before she became an A-list script writer in Hollywood, Diablo Cody worked in the sex industry in Minnesota. Yes, she did it as a lark and a chance to do some “research” but like her the dialogue in her movies, Candy Girl offers plenty of sly humor and irony. I enjoyed the whole lurid experience. Loved Juno. Hope the new one is as good.
I wouldn’t be surprised if CANDY GIRL gets made into a movie, too, Patti.
What Patti said. I loved Juno. Her script was brilliant. We quote lines from it regularly.
The new one doesn’t look as interesting to me but I’m sure it’s worth watching.
I’ll check out the book.
Diane and I will be going to YOUNG ADULT whenever it opens here, Jeff. Diablo Cody is full of surprises!
I think it’s interesting that a post about a book by a former stripper (an erudite one, but a stripper none-the-less) gets one-third as many comments as a post about Lionel Trilling.
As you can see, Deb, the commentors on this blog are high-minded and astute. You certainly exemplify those aspects.
By a complete coincidence, I chatted with a stripper yesterday. Although no raving beauty, she was charming and intelligent. Her main gripe was that the club owners wouldn’t provide the girls with free bus passes. Ah, the exotic world of stripping.
Why am I not surprised, Drongo.
