Diane and I finally caught up with Kenneth Branagh’s version of the classic Cinderella at our $3 movie theater. This Disney movie came out months ago and did very well by earning $521 million worldwide. Lilly James plays a fetching Cinderella while Cate Blanchett revels in the role of the Evil Stepmother. Helena Bonham Carter narrates the story and shows up as The Fairy Godmother. If you haven’t seen this movie, you’re missing out on a well-crafted film with a first-rate cast. GRADE: B+
Loved this movie – took my parents to see it and they got a real kick out of it.
Sergio, we got a real kick out of CINDERELLA, too. Of course, it follows the classic story, but the acting held our interest.
Haven’t seen it but will – eventually – when it gets to cable.
Jeff, I’m sure CINDERELLA is just about to show up in stores on DVD and Blu-ray.
Maybe this will win over Phil.
Patti, I suspect Phil will be surprised and entertained by this incarnation of CINDERELLA. You’ll like it, too.
You say above “it follows the classic story…” By which do you mean the Basile, the Grimm, or the Disney?
Rick, the Basile. This version of CINDERELLA is darker than most Disney movies.
This is one I’ll end up catching on bluray from Redbox when it comes out, mostly because of too many things going on. I like the Cinderella story, particularly the Ever After film, and thought this one looked like it was done well.
Carl, this new Disney version of CINDERELLA was a surprise hit. Great production values!
