I’ve read all the SF nvoels in Jack McDevitt’s Alex Benedict series. Benedict is a hunter of antiques and collectibles 9000 years in the future. He has a smart pilot, Chase Kolpath, and a relentless curiosity about the Past. In Benedict’s latest adventure, Coming Home, clues to the whereabouts of artifacts from the U.S. Space Museum lead Kolpath and Benedict to Ancient Earth were they are attacked and almost become shark-bait. If you enjoy science fiction with a hint of mystery, I recommend Jack McDevitt’s Alex Benedict series. And I really like the John Harris cover! GRADE: B
I’ve read some of McDevitt, even a Benedict. This sounds good.
Randy, SEEKER is my favorite McDevitt. The early McDevitt novels are better than the later ones.
George, what a striking cover! I’d pick it up without a second thought since I read both sf and mystery or a mixture of both.
Prashant, I’m big fan of John Harris SF covers. Harris has published a book, THE ART OF JOHN HARRIS, that I highly recommend!
I was going to ask if it is better to try an earlier one but since SEEKER won the Nebula Award and you say it is his best book that might be the one to try.
Jeff, Bill Crider and I both liked SEEKER a lot.
I find McDevitt enjoyable but not great. Writing is sometimes a little clunky. Except his time travel novel which is one of the worst books I’ve ever read.
Steve, I prefer McDevitt’s early work to his more recent novels. In my opinion, SEEKER is McDevitt’s best SF novel.
This is one I actually might like.
Bob, I enjoyed COMING HOME and I think you would, too.
