Season 2 of Covert Affairs starts tonight on the USA Network. I was mildly entertained by Season 1, but Covert Affairs is not must-see TV. However, Piper Perabo as a C.I.A. agent Annie Walker delivers earnest performances and the cast that surrounds her (Peter Gallagher as C.I.A. Chief, Kari Matchett in her cocktail dresses as Annie’s boss, and Christopher Gorham as Annie’s blind colleague) is surprisingly strong for a cable show with a limited budget. Hopefully, the scripts in Season 2 will be stronger than Season 1.
Jackie liked it more than I did but we will definitely be watching tonight, if only to see what inappropriate outfit Kari Matchett wears to work this season. I bet women in government cringe every time she shows up looking like she’s heading for cocktails rather than the CIA.
Diane likes COVERT AFFAIRS more than I do, Jeff. It really got “fluffy” at the end of last season, but since there’s nothing on TV right now, I’ll watch tonight’s episode.
Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder in HEROES) is also part of the strong cast.
True, Jeff.
Of course, for fans of 24 and Dave Barry’s blog, Matchett will forever be remembered as “Evil Lisa” – President Powers Boothe’s mistress in season 6.
But that was in Matchett’s pre-cocktail dress days, Jeff.
There seems to be a marathon of this show running all day, starting at 7:00 am here, hour after hour of it up to 3:00 pm, then the show is on at 10pm. I’m usually asleep at 10pm…
That’s what DVRs were invented for, Rick.
Exactly! We don’t watch anything live, other than tne news and sports (and not always them!).
I can’t bear watching 20 minutes of commercials during an hour program, Jeff. Life is too short. We DVR just about everything.
Sleuth, that little sibling of USA, is rerunning all the episodes of COVERT (and the other USA crime dramas) it can get its hands on. Beats sibling Chiller running all those “nonfictional” haunting shows…and FEAR FACTOR repeats, for goodness’s sake. As bad as the wrasslin’ on the SyFyllis Channel.
Cable channels are desperate for content, Todd. They will run just about anything to fill the time.
And not cable alone.
True, Todd.
