Totally commercial. That’s what Wilson Phillips’ Dedicated amounts to. Carnie and Wendy Wilson (daughters of Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys) and Chynna Phillips (daughter of John Phillips and Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & the Papas) formed the Wilson Phillips group back in 1990s. The logic of Dedicated is that the children of those great singers would sing their favorite songs that their parents made famous. You can guess how this turns out: bland, bland, bland. They possess a mere scintilla of their parents’ talent. I’ll embed the Wilson Phillips video and the Real Deal video below. You be the judge. GRADE: F

That mid-sixties was my era. The Mamas and The Papas were a favorite of this teenager.
Here’s another horror story I read about, possibly one of Bill Crider’s uh-oh segments. One of the children of a Beatle, I forget which one, said he wouldn’t be averse to forming a New Beatles with other children of the members. I shuddered. It would likely be a purely commercial endeavor to make money.
Yes, I’ve heard that “New Beatles” rumor, too, Randy. And the commercial possibilities are endless! But it would be awful music…like Wilson Phillips.
Tell us how you really feel about this CD, George.
Randy–I think it was Paul’s son, James, who made the comment about the new Beatles. Blech!
The proof is in the music, Deb. The Beach Boys and The Mamas and the Papas could sing. Their kids can’t.
I think this must be your first F. I almost want to hear it to see how it can be that bad.
Just listen to the sample and multiply it by 10, Patti! It’s that awful. I also gave that terrible film KILLERS back in 2010.
I believe that was James McCartney, Randy. I shudder at the thought, though I know George’s son is a talented guitarist. Oops, Deb beat me to it this time.
This is enough to drive Brian back into the sandbox. Yuch!
DEDICATED is a pure commercial move, Jeff. Wilson Phillips made a brief appearance in BRIDESMAIDS and that ignited their “career.” This new CD is just a money-grab.
Just watched a bit of “California Dreamin'” and the only word that fits is pathetic.
Ann Curry should be ashamed of herself.
“Pathetic” is too kind a word, Jeff. That Wilson Phillips performance is dreadful!
Hey, I don’t think it’s that bad. I’d give it a C-.
Then you need to listen to Wilson Phillips sing “Fun, Fun, Fun,” Bill.
The whole project smells like a rotted orange.
Well put, Rick! Actually, it smells like money to me. DEDICATED is a complete rip-off of classic songs.
The choice of lead vocal in this performance was Very poor. Their studio records when they started out were pleasant enough. But this is pretty damned weak, all right.
Well, you have to consider the 1977 technology, too, Todd. The video from the 1991 performance is vastly better. Oops, I thought you were talking about Bonnie Raitt instead of Wilson Phillips. Chynna Phillips has a weak voice.
