PIZZA JUNCTION, my favorite pizza and sub restaurant, was featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-ins & Dives last night on THE FOOD NETWORK. That episode will be rebroadcast again Friday night at 9 P.M. EDT and Sunday at 3 P.M. EDT. Check your local listings for times in your area. When Art Scott visited us last summer, I took Art to lunch at PIZZA JUNCTION. You’ll never get a more satisfying pizza or sub anywhere else. Yum! If you’re in Western New York, don’t miss stopping in and having a memorable meal. And, if you invite me along, I’ll pay!
I love this show, and you only have to look at my waistline to understand why. Guy goes to places that serve just the kind of food I love: full of flavor, greasy, cheesy, delicious.
You’re lucky, George, to have one of the featured places near you. I understand from the book – which I have, of course – that when the triple D crew finishes shooting and the show airs the place will be jammed thereafter, so I hope they recognize you as a regular and let you go to the head of the line!
I wish there were some places like this here in my area, but the chains seem to have taken over and it’s really hard to find an independent cafe or burger joint. I don’t want to drive all the way to L.A. for Tommy’s or Pink’s, so I just have to make do.
I’ve made a note of that offer for lunch.
Yes, I expect PIZZA JUNCTION to be mobbed now that Guy Fieri and the Triple-D program has praised the food, Rick. The pizzas are loaded, the subs are scrumptious, and the rest of the menu is top-notch. If you plan to eat there, arrive hungry…very hungry! The portions are enormous!
This is Phil’s favorite show. We had “words” about it last night when I wanted to tape the Marvin Gaye special on PBS and he wanted to tape this. (We watched Men of a Certain Age). I say you don’t tape shows that are repeated a million times. And that since he can’t relicated the food prepared on here, what’s the point? You have to have a ten foot grill and make it for dozens of people.
You’re right about everything on the FOOD NETWORK being repeated endless times, Patti. Phil will be able to catch that episode of DINERS, DRIVE-INS & DIVES on Friday night or Sunday afternoon.
Patti – it’s watching the prep and the idea of the food that’s important, much of what is shown can be replicated at home in single-serving size. Not that I’d mind having a four foot flattop in my kitchen, but our kitchen is barely big enough to hold the basic stuff. Besides, unlike MAN VS. FOOD, Triple D shows them making portions that are intended to go on a plate for an individual.
The point is also Guy Fieri, who I personally think is entertaining as hell, though Wife doesn’t agree, and often wanders off to read or sleep or something when DD&D comes on. Maybe it’s a guy (no pun) thing.
I’ll be watching this weekend, George!
It was on at 10:30 last night, and won’t be repeated until January 21 here.
PIZZA JUNCTION is about five minutes from my house, Rick. All too convenient for a pizza or sub run! It seems like DINERS, DRIVE-INS & DIVES is on almost everyday here!
If I’d seen this show before my last trip to N Tonawanda, I’d have known about the exotic concoctions that were featured, and would have ordered something more adventurous than my usual (pepperoni, sausage & onions). Next time I’ll try the beef on weck pizza. And speaking of Buffalo specialties, the Anchor Bar (which we also visited on my last trip) was the site of a Bobby Flay wings Throwdown show that aired a week or two ago.
The Slovenian restaurant in Cleveland featured on the show also got me excited. I’ll have to pay it a visit next time I’m back there, though Google Maps informed me that it’s located in a small, still-surviving ethnic island surrounded on all sides by some of the most crime-ridden neighborhoods on the East Side.
Western New York pizzerias love to experiment with exotic concoctions like that beef-on-weck pizza, Art. I did catch that Bobby Flay wings Throwdown show, but that didn’t seem blog-worthy. I can believe that Slovenian restaurant is located in a “transitional” neighborhood. Some of Buffalo’s best restaurants are located in such places, but safety is always an issue. Remember, we visited the Anchor Bar in the daylight. Once night falls, trouble walks the streets down there.
I say we all meet in Tonawanda for a joint experience–and then go to Niagara on the Lake for a play.
I’m all for it, Patti! Just set the date!
We were eating in a restaurant with Beth & her friend WIlba on Magazine St. in New Orleans a couple of nights ago and there was Guy’s poster staring down at me as I stuffed in the all-you-can-eat fried catfish.
Yum!
A guy from Buffalo opened a little restaurant in Brooklyn and is serving beef on weck (though not pizza).
I’ll check out that show tonight.
George, my mistake. It seems the reason Guy’s picture was on the wall was because they did that restaurant – Joey K.’s – on the show, and according to Wilba it did indeed boost their business tremendously.
Wilba is right, Jeff. After an eatery is immortalized on DINERS, DRIVE-INS & DIVES, business goes up quickly! And there’s a group of people who are trying to eat at all the Triple-D restaurants. Whenever they travel, they try to hit one or two diners, drive-ins, and dives in the area they’re visiting.
Well, we watched two episodes last night and checked it out on the On Demand channel, but no Pizza Junction. We’ll have to try again.
The FOOD NETWORK plays DINERS, DRIVE-INS & DIVES endlessly, Jeff. Rumor has it that the PIZZA JUNCTION episode will be repeated Sunday at 3 P.M.
What’s up with Guy Fieri and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives not visiting Colorado yet? He’s been to Alaska and Hawaii so maybe he’s got a beef with Colorado or something. Either way, the show keeps small business going so keep up the good work my man.
Triple-D will go to all 50 states, Rick.
