It was news to me that Antonin Dvorak had written a piano concerto. I’m familiar with Dvorak’s other music, with the New World Symphony, the Slavonic Dances, the “American” String Quartet, and the Cello Concerto in B minor being my favorites. When I read a very positive review in the American Record Guide of Vassily Primakov’s new CD with his performance of Dvorak’s piano concerto, I immediately ordered it. While not as compelling as his other work, Dvorak wrote a very entertaining piece of music when he penned his piano concerto. Vassily Primakov’s performance is sparkling and full of energy. Along with the piano concerto, Dvorak’s Poetic Tone-Pictures, Op. 85 fills out the disk. This is pleasant music superbly played. GRADE: A-
This is my favorite era of classical music. Phil likes earlier and later.
Dvorak’s PIANO CONCERTO is very listenable, Patti. You would enjoy it. Phil might enjoy the Poetic Tone Pictures included on this CD.
I have both the cello and violin concertos but not this one. I’ll have to get it.
BTW, Saturday Soundtrack is FINALLY up. It’s an oldie but a really, really good goodie.
I thought SOUNDTRACK SATURDAY was turning into SOUNDTRACK SUNDAY after I checked your blog a couple times this morning. I own the KING KONG disk, haven’t listened to it. I like Marco Polo CDs. Great value for the money!
Got any Jerry Lee Lewis?
Let me check my teetering stack of music CDs and I’ll get back to you, Bob.
George, I usually do the Saturday Soundtrack post the day before (or even further ahead) and all I have to do is post it or schedule it for Saturday morning, but this time I changed my mind about what I wanted to do, and had to do the thing from scratch beginning about 9:00 my time.
Which is noon, my time, Rick. I usually check blogs three times a day: morning, afternoon, and evening.
