End of Watch walks the tightrope of blending comedy with brutal reality. Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena play two L. A. cops who make one bust too many and as a result become marked for death by a Mexican drug cartel. Jake Gyllenhaal’s role of the brainy cop works well against Michael Pena’s brilliant role as an emotional, family-oriented cop. The on-screen chemistry of these two actors is both funny and moving. We’ve all seen plenty of cop movies, but End of Watch breaks some new ground. Don’t miss it! GRADE: A-
I’ll probably have to catch this one on DVD.
You’ll like END OF WATCH, Bill. Excellent performances. My two minor quibbles are the hand-held cameras (I don’t like too much jiggling while I’m trying to watch a movie) and the mis-calculation of the power of an AK-47.
